Dave Hubbard started in the HVAC business in 1987 installing radiant heating systems in the Salt Lake City area. Having grown up in Kennewick (Go Lions!), Dave wanted to settle his family here in the Tri-Cities area. He and his wife Kelli have raised five kids here (Go Lions!). They love the Tri Cities, calling it 'Home'. Dave and Kelli chose to start their own HVAC company in 2000. Thankfully, the economy here allows the company to continue growing each year. They have a strong sense of community, providing jobs for over 100 employees over the past 13 years, while also sponsoring youth athletic teams.

If you are familiar with heat pumps, a geothermal systems work in a similar way inside the home. The biggest difference is that geothermal relies on circulated water many feet underground, while a heat pump relies on outside air. Regardless of whether it is summer or winter in Kennewick, the temperature stays relatively constant underground. A geothermal system harnesses the constant temperature underground to heat or cool a home efficiently. According to The U.S. Department of Energy, 48 percent of total annual energy costs in the home are from a heating and cooling system.
Did you know there's a big difference between a furnace and an air handler? A furnace burns fuel (typically natural gas in the Tri-Cities) and transfers the heat into a heat exchanger, while an air handler uses electricity to heat a metal coil. Both appliances then push air over the heated elements, which travels through the ducts to heat the home or building. Due to our frigid winters in the Tri-Cities, it is common to see a furnace/air conditioner combination installed in homes. It's much more cost effective to pay for natural gas than it is to heat an electric coil when temperatures dip below freezing.

Chinook Heating & Air offers heat pump installation in the Tri-Cities because a heat pump offers cool crisp air in the summer and gentle welcoming heat in the winter. Heat pumps aren't just an alternative for a traditional gas or electric furnace, they can also replace a traditional air conditioner. How is this possible? A regular air conditioner pulls hot air out of the home and blows it outside. This is what cools your home in the summer and makes an air conditioner unnecessary in the winter. Alternatively, a heat pump, "pumps" in warm or cool air depending on the season.
