LiveRoof plastic modules, concrete pavers, aluminum edging, and other accessories are manufactured in the United States. LiveRoof brand engineered green roof soils are blended by local soil formulators and planted by local Licensed Growers in the USA and Canada. We breed and select the most outstanding plants, and subject them to rigorous rooftop trials and broadscale hardiness testing. We proudly offer dozens of exclusive, RoofTop Proven plant selections specifically developed for performance on green roofs.
We are green roof innovators, focused on optimizing every aspect of the green roof. We are a network of industry leading green roof growers with a collective 500+ years of horticultural experience. We are local in key markets across North America with specialization in regional plant materials, soils, water, and climate. We believe that to do green roofs right, we must provide the greatest long term owner value (not necessarily the cheapest acquisition price). To us this means ease of maintenance, greatest beauty, longest lifespan, and lowest life cycle cost.
Through experience gained in supplying millions of square feet of green roofing, a decade of research and an obsessive drive for continual improvement, we have developed evolving best practices for designing green roofs. We are pleased to share these experience with architects and engineers, so that there is no need to reinvent the wheel when it comes to green roof design. We strongly recommend that you download and reference our Designer's Checklist each time you design a green roof. This one page list includes design-related issues which may not be obvious but can have a large impact on the success of your project.
Some green roof suppliers will suggest that 1 or 2 months between maintenance visits is reasonable. With commonly invasive weeds, this period is too long to prevent them from reproducing by flowering and setting seed. One weed may in turn into dozens between visits. And, if these dozens had the opportunity to reproduce, they become hundreds, which in turn can become thousands. Different climates and different vegetation types call for different care protocols. We have developed a tool that allows us to quickly generate customized operation manuals for each project.
Extension of the lifetime of the roof; typical estimates are that a green roof potentially extends the lifetime of a roof between 200 and 300 percent, by protecting the rooftop from ultraviolet radiation, large temperature fluctuations, drying winds, and punctures. As the huge costs associated with stormwater runoff are becoming recognized and as smog and other pollution impacts our cities, many cities and states are encouraging "green" building methods, including green roof systems. By offering financial incentives for green roofs, municipalities help to reduce storm water surges, and therefore protect the ground water, lakes and streams, and encourage energy conservation.
Green roofs go beyond any other roofing option when it comes to the multitude of benefits they provide to those who own, work and live under them. Green roofs are beautiful, create habitat, promote health and well-being, attract customers, reduce stormwater runoff, protect building envelopes and conserve energy. To learn more about how to optimize the benefits of your specific green roof application, please reach out to your local representative. Adding green roofs can expand the amount of usable space a facility can offer.
Our green roof systems and accessories are designed in response to feedback from customers looking for attractive, simple and secure solutions. All components are integrated and proven to promote plant health, long life, and dependable sustainability. We are dedicated to providing the best functioning, most beautiful, longest lived, and most easily maintained green roof on the market. At LiveRoof, we look well beyond closing the initial sale. Bottom line: we want every designer, installer and owner of our products to be elated with their experience with LiveRoof.
Green roof plants are not one-size-fits-all, and the individual requirements of each green roof design must be taken into consideration. Your LiveRoof Licensed Grower is an experienced horticultural professional who will examine the particular needs of project and assist in selection of the best plants to bring your design to life. Some green roof companies also tout having a horticulturist on staff, but we have dozens, in different climates, most with decades experience growing plants for and in that local environment.
LiveRoof projects are installed only by LiveRoof Certified Installers that have been trained by LiveRoof representatives in the proper method of installing LiveRoof systems. These are typically professional roofing contractors and landscape contractors. Walking, starting and stopping, and having too large of a team increases the number of man-hours required to complete installations. Labor is expensive, so practicing lean flow is essential to being competitive and profitable. This video provides recommendations for enhancing installer profitability through "lean" or "continual flow" of materials, appropriate equipment, and proper team size.
