Charlie & Sons electric is totally a fraud. They never disclose that they will charge customers for their electricians’ travel time either on their webpage or over the phone. Only after you call them and persistently ask them to provide breakdowns of the charges, they will reluctantly tell you about the inclusion of travel time into their labor charges at the same rate of $88. And they charge the travel time for each electrician no matter how closely your place is located from their company. Dishonest people!
Be careful with their electrician named Jason. Jason is always smiling, but he is shockingly unprofessional. He is a blatant liar and deep down racist.
We first had Jason and his colleague Jimmy for some electrical work in our house on May 17. Jimmy left early that day, and we raised our doubt to Jason about whether Jimmy was competent to do the job given what happened during their work. Jason explained that Jimmy has been in the profession for a long time and Jimmy is just "old", "forgetful", “not good at communication”, "still learning how to do things", and "specialized in commercial work but not residential work." We made it clear to Jason that we were only complaining about Jimmy. Our handyman and friend Tom was all around that day and joined all the conversations.
We had Jason back today (June 1) to finish off the project. Before Jason came into the house in the morning, he parked on our driveway and talked to our neighbor JO inside Jason’s van for a while. It was JO who referred us to Charlie & Sons and he has done work with Jason several times previously. JO is like our child’s grandpa and helps us all the time. Jason then came in and complete the work around noon.
After Jason left, I came across JO on the sidewalk. JO was very upset with me and said he would never refer me to any contractors in the future. JO said, Jason told him that I accused Jason for being incompetent and unprofessional. Jason also told JO that he (Jason) knows everyone in the profession and he (Jason) would tell everyone not to take any work from me in the future. I told JO the story from our side, which JO apparently did not hear a word about from Jason. It was obvious to JO that Jason was backstabbing us in front of him.
I came back inside and called Jason right away. I asked Jason why he talked to our neighbor about the business between him (Jason) and me. Jason denied right away. I repeated what he told JO, and JO was apparently very surprised that JO talked to me. Then Jason said he was talking to JO just as a friend. I questioned whether it was professional to talk to a friend about such a business matter and lie about what had actually happened between himself and me. Jason said “it is how we Americans do things” and then hanged up on me. Having moved to the US 10+ years ago, I have never met such sort of Americans!
Here is what happened on May 17:
Jason said the day before that he would show up at our place at 8 AM, and he did not show up until after 9:30 AM. We called him after 8 and he sent a colleague named Jimmy who arrived after 8:30. Our hired handyman Tom had to wait from 8 till Jimmy arrived to be able to start his work, and Tom had to explain which switch was connected to which light to Jimmy 5 or 6 times before Jimmy understood it and then Jason appeared. Tom had to explain everything again but now to Jason. Basically, we wasted more than one hour with Jimmy. When Jimmy and Jason started working, Jason had to explain to Jimmy how to do things multiple times, which made me wonder whether Jimmy was just an apprentice in spite of his age. It was apparent an educational project for Jimmy, rather than a house project which we pay by time. Jimmy even bumped himself once when he was trying to disconnect some wires. Jimmy had to get into our attic to do some work and did not put the insulation material back when he finished. He also left the attic access uncovered with the insulation material flying all over the place in the room. We had to ask our hired handyman to clean up afterwards. I was left wondering where Jason had found such a person to do our project. So we had a talk about our concerns before Jason left that noon.
This wizard man from Charlie & Sons came over and literally touched a wire in the wall with his finger and fixed my Schluter in-floor heating.
I had a thermostat fail for my electric baseboard heaters on a weeknight. Called and within an hour an electrician was at my home repacking the faulty thermostat. This is the second time I've called them for an 'emergency' job. Great work, fair pricing, very responsive!
