ACM Basement Waterproofing is a Long Island family-owned and operated basement waterproofing company serving all of Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Our expertise in a wide variety of drainage and waterproofing solutions have made us the company of choice among Long Islanders looking to end their wet basement woes forever. We offer a range of solutions to leaky basements and often combine them in order to create a program that works best for your home's particular needs. From French drains and sump pumps, to window wells, grading, channel drains and foundation excavation, our Certified Waterproofing Specialists will craft the optimal solution to keep the water out of your basement.
Generally speaking, we install sump pumps in conjuction with a French drain. Sump pump installation starts with a polyethylene basin that is buried near the periphery of the basement. After installing the fully submersible sump pump, we run PVC pipe from the pump to the outdoor discharge location. Because the sump liner is waterproof, it keeps the pump from performing the excess work associated with perpetually pumping ground water. Other companies will tell you that the sump liner needs to contain holes or else the groundwater may push the sump basin out of the ground.
Rising groundwater is one of the most common causes of water intrusion. As the water pressure builds on the outside of a home, it will push water through even the tiniest cracks and spaces in your basement floor and walls. Like any fluid, water is constantly seeking an area of lower pressure and in this case, the area of lower pressure is the inside of your basement. The goal of a pressure relief system, or french drain, is to give this water a place to go — a place other than your basement floor.
The most effective, efficient, and affordable waterproofing solution available is the French drain. In other parts of the nation, the French drain is often referred to as a drain tile but in the northeast, the term French drain is prevalent. The French drain was named after American innovator Henry French who popularized the idea in the late 1800s as a means of providing farmlands with proper drainage. In those days, drain tiles were little more than a ditch filled with gravel and pitched from a high area to a lower one.
The humidity from the constant dampness of a wet basement, coupled with an abundance of mold food provides ideal conditions for mold to grow and thrive. In finished basements mold feeds on the sheetrock, wood studs, insulation, doors, window frames, and wood molding. Even unfinished basements are a paradise for mold spores - cardboard boxes, books, papers, leather, wooden and upholstered furniture, and wood beams in the ceiling all grow mold. There are many varieties of mold, some more dangerous than others.
Mark and his crew were friendly, neat and efficient. He answered all my questions and explained everything. They were here when they said they would be. It was the most relaxing job I've had done in my home, no worrying at all. Great Work!
ACM just finished installing French Drains in our basement. Mark the owner was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. He went above and beyond along with his team of workers. He walked my husband around our property offering suggestions on a number of occasions about how to deal with any drainage issues that may be a problem outside. I would highly recommend this company and appreciate all they did.
The owner Mark came out to take a look at my basement last night. He was very accommodating in making a late appointment. When making the appointment I told him I recently had a french drain put in but it wasn't working so I wanted other ideas. When he got to my house and took a look he straight out said that he won't touch my house because I had work done (which I told him before he came out) and there's nothing he can do. He basically said that there's nothing left for me to do either when I asked his professional opinion on other options to remedy my water issue. He became very rude and said that he drove very far to get to my house and that he needs to leave (after being at my house for all of 5 minutes). As soon as he realized that he cannot make money off of me he could care less about being here. My husband and I were insulted and offended to say the least. I would NOT recommend this company based on my interaction with their very inconsiderate owner.
