JAT offers more than 30 years of experience in historic renovation, commercial construction and new home construction and renovation. We love what we do, and it shows. Our team brings superb craftsmanship, superior customer service, and an exquisite eye for detail to every project. JAT is a licensed and insured boutique firm with the knowledge and experience necessary to successfully tackle all sized projects. Our smaller size allows us to give our clients the attention to detail they desire. Our niche is renovating historic buildings in the Greater New Orleans area.
JAT is sought-after for commercial constructions projects because of our experience, knowledge and customer service. Our commercial renovation portfolio includes projects of various scale. We deliver projects on time and on budget and keep safe, clean jobsites.
This project was especially exciting for JAT because the California homeowner shared our deep love for historical architecture and spared no expense to restore the shotgun double to its original beauty. The home was riddled with termites and was balloon-framed, which made it more of a challenge, but even in its pre-renovation state, we saw its potential. JAT restored everything from the floors to the dormer windows to the roof. We took delicate care in restoring the fireplaces, keeping the original tile.
As your General Contractor, we will work with you to turn your house dreams into reality. We are highly skilled at giving new construction that old-world charm. JAT understands budget is key, so we provide an upfront, comprehensive cost proposal. We treat each new build and renovation as if it was our own home. We don't take for granted that home renovations may mean living in a construction site. To that end, we work with you to create a schedule that maintains a safe, clean work environment for you and your family.
Every old building has a story, and this one has many. What started as a warehouse for a local construction company in the 1940s has appropriately returned to builder's hands decades later. The building in McDonoghville in Old Gretna is now a JAT family project, and by family, we mean just that! JAT owner, Brent Theriot, his wife, Rachel, and their young son, Jacob, are personally restoring this old building to its historic splendor. The building has had many commercial lives. If you grew up in Old Gretna, you may remember it as a glass store or a motorcycle repair shop.
This home is proof that JAT's quality of work and attention to detail are what homeowners *and buyers* are looking for. After handing the keys over to the homeowner, he listed the property and it was under contract the following day! To get it to that point, we gutted this shotgun home, rebuilt it back with all new electrical, plumbing and HVAC system, and re-arranged the floorplan to create a better flow. We also added a master suite. We're especially proud of the front door and hardware, which is original, yet now completely restored.
JAT restored this charming single shotgun from top to bottom. When we removed the back half of the house to increase both the width and length, JAT constructed a new foundation. We built it back by adding a new kitchen, laundry and mother-in-law suite. We also re-did all the siding. The finished project is an updated classic style NOLA home with modern amenities.
Because of our reputation as the historic renovation contractor, JAT was called to take over this project, which is a restoration of four townhomes and their slave quarters and is a work in progress. The townhomes were built in the early 1800's, and historians believe they are remnants in Faubourg St. Mary of early 19th-century structures spurred by the development of the New Basin Canal in the 1830's. JAT is performing a laundry list of renovations and is working with the out-of-state owner, the local designer, architects and engineers to move the project forward towards completion.
Renovating old homes in New Orleans' oldest neighborhoods can be tricky if you don't know your ABC's, or rather your HDLC's, At JAT, we are expert navigators of the Historic District Landmark Commission's rule book. When bulldozing and starting over is not an option (and we're thankful it's not!), JAT meticulously follows HDLC regulations to deliver a historically correct construction. This Creole Cottage in the Faubourg Marigny was no exception. You can't tell by looking at it now, but the only original part of this home is the front wall and some windows.
