Mold is a microscopic organism, which grows from spores. There are mold spores everywhere in our environment but they are usually inactive. However, when the relative humidity exceeds 60% and the temperature is between 32 and 104 degrees F, they germinate and multiply. As the mold develops, it produces enzymes to digest organic materials including paper, books, cloth, photographs, leather, and wood. In order for mold to grow it needs a food source such as leaves, wood, some insulations, wallboard, drywall, carpet padding, clothing, paper or dirt.
There are several different types of mold testing that we can do based on what you need to get out of it. Surface testing is either using a "sterile swab" or a "tape lift" to determine what type of visible mold is on your surface(s). This type of testing is often used to prove or disprove the presence of mold or to determine the type(s) of mold that may be in your home. An air test is taking a measured amount of air for a measured amount of time across a cassette (spore trap) which has a sticky microscope slide attached inside of it.
My name is Scott LeMarr, Milwaukee Mold Inspector is a division of Honest Home Inspections, LLC. Milwaukee Mold Inspector was created because many houses I was inspecting had some sort of mold issue and I had a hard time getting good answers for my clients. So I began to investigate and take classes to learn more about mold and water intrusion. Today I hold many certifications including but not limited to Certified Mold Inspector and Assessor (CMIA). One taught by Pro-Lab and one taught by Environmental Solutions Association and have taken the required courses to obtain the designation MASTER Indoor Environmental Specialist (MIES).
