In 1958, Sam Hurvitz purchased Cape Cod Wrecking Company on Bedford Street in Abington, MA. Seeing that Bedford Street was the main route to Cape Cod at the time, Sam named his new company Cape Cod Lumber Company. Since then, Cape Cod Lumber has been serving the south shore area as one of the region's largest building supply retailers. In 1985 Sam retired and his son, Harvey, took over the business. Since then, Cape Cod Lumber has grown to become the area's largest supplier of lumber, building materials, interior and exterior millwork, doors, replacement windows and kitchen cabinets.
