PCI members include precast concrete manufacturers, companies that provide products and services to the industry, precast concrete erectors, and individual members, such as architects, consultants, contractors, developers, educators, engineers, and students. To provide value to members by maintaining and protecting the technical integrity of precast concrete, promoting its increased use as a high-quality construction material, and enhancing members' businesses. As a collaborative group of industry stakeholders dedicated to promoting the broader use of precast concrete systems, we engage our constituents through standards development, certification, research, marketing, and education, and we collaborate with each other to enhance our businesses.
Precast concrete is the perfect medium for architecture. The use of color, form, and texture allows for unlimited creativity that evokes the beautiful natural expression of the material. The aesthetic appearance of architectural precast concrete is infinite. With the choice of aggregates, form liners, pigments, and textures the architect can achieve a wide variety of design objectives. Precast concrete is a high performance material that integrates easily with other systems and inherently provides the versatility, efficiency, and resiliency needed to meet the multi-hazard requirements and long-term demands of high performance structures.
PCI develops, maintains and disseminates the Body of Knowledge for the precast concrete structures industry. This is accomplished mostly through PCI Groups, such as Councils and Committees. These groups are made up of hundreds of volunteers representing all major stakeholders in the industry, investing more than 30,000 hours annually. Purpose: To provide a means for PCI producer members to interact and develop guidance for industry best business practices through the sustained development of committee strategy.
PCI is the premier member association dedicated to precast concrete professionals and organizations. Since its founding in 1954, the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) has developed, maintained, and disseminated industry standards for the precast/prestressed concrete structures industry. Many of these standards, which are used by PCI, its members, and the design community, have been in place for over 50 years. PCI has a full-time, licensed, professional engineering staff that provides administrative oversight and support to help manage and keep records of the standards activities. For more information about the procedures for developing, approving, and maintaining PCI standards, please refer to Procedures for the Development, Approval, and Maintenance of Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute Standards.
