A thermostat is the controls mechanism for your heating and cooling system which senses the temperature of your home so that the system's temperature is maintained near a desired set-point. The thermostat does this by monitoring and regulating the air flow and refrigerants as needed to maintain the desired temperature. Miami Heating & Cooling offers a variety of programmable thermostats. These thermostats can even control your humidity or remind you when to change your filter. The EPA estimates that a programmable thermostat can cut energy use by 20 percent to 30 percent, which can be roughly $200 a year.

The most common central cooling system is a split system, which includes an outdoor cabinet containing a condenser coil and compressor, and an indoor evaporator coil, usually installed in conjunction with your furnace or air handler. The compressor pumps a chemical called refrigerant through the system. Once warm air inside your home blows across the indoor evaporator coil, its heat energy transfers to the refrigerant inside the coil. That transfer, in turn, "cools" the air. The refrigerant is pumped back to the compressor where the cycle begins again.

Heating can be a large energy expense and with gas prices rising and systems aging therefore losing efficiency, furnaces can be become costly and in some cases, dangerous. Reducing your heating energy use is one of the most effective ways to save money. Gas furnaces are the most common heating appliance used within your home. Miami Heating & Cooling offers many options for heating your home with natural gas. Whether you are looking for high efficiency 95% AFUE furnaces or introductory lines we can help.

Heat pumps offer an energy-efficient alternative to furnaces and air conditioners. Heat pumps use electricity to move heat from a cool space to a warm space, making the cool space cooler and the warm space warmer. Because they move heat rather than generate heat, heat pumps can provide up to 4 times the amount of energy they consume. The most common type of heat pump is the air-source heat pump, which transfers heat between your house and the outside air. If you heat with electricity, a heat pump can trim the amount of electricity you use for heating by as much as 30% to 40%.

Air handlers are indoor units that are commonly combined with heat pumps to create all electric heating and cooling systems. Air handlers house evaporator coils and blower motors that move air through the coils and into your home. Typically air handlers have electric heat strips to match your home's needs during the heating season warming the air and delivering it via your home's duct system. Miami Heating & Cooling offers variable speed units that provide higher efficiency and even humidity control.

Your air conditioner filter serves a dual purpose. It improves the air quality inside your home by helping to reduce the level of dust in the air, and it helps increase the efficiency of your air conditioner unit by reducing the amount of dust and other particulates that can accumulate on the unit's evaporator coils. Filters are rated by the size of the particulates they are able to stop.
