Since 1936, Boone REMC has had a clear mission: to meet our members' ever-changing needs for energy-related services delivered in a safe, dependable, and reasonably priced manner. As a member-owned cooperative, our vision is to be a trusted, innovative leader in providing our members with superior electric service at fair and reasonable prices, while acting according to our bylaws. Boone REMC is a member of Indiana Electric Cooperatives and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and is a Touchstone Energy cooperative.

Boone REMC offers high-quality 50-gallon electric water heaters at a discounted price of $240 (plus sales tax) for homes, businesses, and outbuildings located in our service area. We offer an electric water heater repair service and bill members only for replacement parts. This service is available during our regular office hours Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m, for water heaters installed at locations we serve. Boone REMC offers standard replacement parts for most water heater models.

If you think your home or business could benefit from a more in-depth energy efficiency analysis, you may want to schedule an efficiency inspection. Boone REMC offers this service for $100 December through February, as weather permits. During an efficiency inspection, our technician will use an infrared and standard digital camera to identify key problem areas that could be costing you money. We'll also inspect the interior and exterior, attic, basement, and/or crawl space to check your insulation levels and look for ductwork issues, as well as building envelope problems that could increase your bill.

Boone REMC offers dusk-to-dawn LED outdoor lights. LED lighting lasts longer and uses less energy than incandescent lights, and it works well in extremes of both hot and cold weather. Because LED bulbs are designed to focus light, they can be directed to a specific location without relying on an external reflector, achieving a higher application efficiency than conventional lighting.

On April 10, 1936, Boone REMC became the first electric cooperative established in Indiana, incorporated as the Boone County Rural Electric Membership Corporation. We were formed to extend electric service into rural areas where other utilities had refused to provide affordable power and received one of the first three loans from President Franklin Roosevelt's Rural Electrification Administration (REA). Our first pole was set on January 9, 1936, at the corner of Lebanon and Noble Streets in Lebanon, Indiana, and our first 60-mile section of line was energized on May 22 of the same year.

Are you thinking about installing solar? We try to make the interconnection very simple for our members. The most important aspect is keeping us informed and give us some notice for scheduling purposes. Currently, we have interconnected solar systems that range in size from 4 kW to 25 kW. A size of 25 kW is our limit. Co-op Solar is a program from your local electric cooperative that makes it easy for members to use solar energy without the cost or hassle of rooftop solar. When you participate in Co-op Solar, you purchase a block of solar power.

As a member-owned cooperative, Boone REMC has a responsibility to care for our territory and todo our part as good stewards of our environment. We do this in several ways: First, we utilize adiverse fuel mix that includes renewable energy as part of a strong portfolio. We also offer energy efficiency assessments, tips, and rebates through the POWER MOVES program, which helps our members save energy. We're also excited about our new Co-op Solarprogram: It's the easiest, most affordable way for our members to invest in solar energy right now.

Trees can beautify your landscape and provide shade for your home, but when they grow too close to power lines they can cause some real problems for your electric service. Boone REMC uses tree-trimming contractors, supervised by an arborist, to help us identify, trim, and even remove hazardous trees.
