Established over 100 years ago, Landau Building Company has become one of the premier family-owned and operated construction management and general contracting firms in Western Pennsylvania. In 2006, Landau Building Company expanded its construction services to include the northern West Virginia region when it created the subsidiary Marks-Landau Construction. Now in its 5th generation, Landau continues to build strong RELATIONSHIPS with its clients by focusing on their need to build a safe, high-quality project on time and within budget.

As the general contractor, our job is to supply the materials, labor, permits, and anything else necessary to complete the project. We field our own superintendents, carpenters, and laborers on the project, performing our own work and hiring specialty subcontractors as needed. All our superintendents are Union carpenters; on top of their field management responsibilities, they often work alongside the field crews. In addition, our affiliation with the Laborer and Carpenter Unions allows us to draw upon a large pool of skilled workers, assuring that our projects never run short of manpower.

Construction Management can be delivered in many different forms, and Landau's exceptionally qualified staff can apply whichever method best suits a client's needs. Our recommended method, and the one most commonly chosen by experienced owners who build with us regularly, is the CM at Risk contract. With a CM at Rick contract, the Construction Manager (CM) agrees to deliver a project at a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP). As the CM, Landau provides two distinct services to the owner; we act as a design consultant during the Design Development phase, and we manage the project once construction begins.

Landau can provide preconstruction services with any project that is negotiated early in the design phase. This can be with a design-build contract or general contracting work, but most often occurs when Landau is hired as Construction Manager. Effective cost estimating and budgeting are at the heart of every successful construction project. In a collaborative effort with the owner and design team, we provide cost and constructability information and help the project team make informed design-management decisions regarding the budget constraints of the project.

Marks-Landau Construction is a wholly owned subsidiary of Landau Building Company and handles the majority of Landau Building Company's projects in West Virginia. The union combines Marks' knowledge of West Virginia's clients and subcontractors with Landau's long history of construction experience. Marks-Landau provides exceptional contracting services for the West Virginia region. Projects have included clients like WVU Medicine, United Hospital Center, WestRidge, Wheeling Hospital, Fairmont State University, West Virginia University, Mon General Hospital, the City of Morgantown and Charles Pointe.

Landau Building Company considers safety the most important aspect of every project. Each project is required, per Landau's Safety Policy, to have a SITE SAFETY PLAN, which is developed by our Safety Director, Project Manager, and Superintendent during the pre-construction phase. By developing this plan early in the process, we are able to foresee and prevent many issues that may arise during construction. The focus of the Site Safety Plan varies between projects, but the safety of all concerned remains the top priority.

From Conceptual Estimating to Design-Build, Landau is a full service General Contractor and Construction Manager. Our range of construction expertise includes healthcare, higher education, community, and commercial buildings, which we deliver to clients after exhaustive cost savings analyses. By partnering with our clients, we are able to develop a detailed and evolving estimate that can assist in fine-tuning their project to meet functional and budgetary goals.
