Berkeley Mills occupies 31,627 square feet in the Bay Area. It's a tangible and definable space that fosters the creation of the intangible, the esoteric, and the timeless. It's a place of unwavering focus, where visionary designers and unparalleled craftsmen strive to become legendary listeners. A place where every artisan is keenly aware that we are ultimately judged by what we do, and what we'll leave behind. We strive to design and handcraft furniture and architectural works that grace our clients with a sense of inner peace.
Every piece of handmade custom furniture from Berkeley Mills in San Francisco begins with the selection of the perfect piece of solid wood. Each board is chosen for color and grain and where it will be used in the piece. To build our custom furniture, we use traditional handmade furniture joinery - executed with modern, precision machines as well as by highly skilled craftsmen using hand tools. We lavish special attention on functional details such as thru-tenons and handpegged joinery that make each piece heirloom quality furniture.
We've earned our reputation as the craftsmen who continually meet and surpass the expectations of corporate clients, and the demands of leading architects, builders and designers.

At Berkeley Mills, we are a Bay Area cabinet shop in the same spirit in which we are custom furniture designers: dedicated to employing the very best natural materials and the highest standards of craftsmanship. We craft our kitchen cabinets and islands out of solid wood-never skimping by using particleboard or composite backs. We use frame-and-panel construction and joining techniques that accommodates the wood's natural expansion and contraction. Your custom kitchen design from Berkeley Mills blends European technology with natural, sustainable materials and thoughtful, ergonomic design.
When we began Berkeley Mills in 1988, we had disparate backgrounds and experiences in woodworking, but we shared a common goal: to make furniture of such enduring design and quality that it transforms one's surroundings by adding sophistication, serenity, beauty and comfort to the environment. Unlike other furniture makers, our craftsmen work neither individually nor on an assembly line, but as a team, each contributing his or her particular expertise. Nearly every step involves hand work or hand finishing.
