Polished concrete is becoming a very popular choice for a low maintenance floor that will provide many years of service. When combined with a concrete stain, polishing can elevate a plain gray concrete floor into a true work of art. There are three main steps in the concrete polishing process. Grinding, honing and polishing. There are four classes of aggregate exposure including Cream, Fine Aggregate, Medium Aggregate and Large Aggregate. There are four levels of finish: Flat, Satin, Semi-Polished and Highly-Polished.
There are multiple forms of decorative concrete (including decorative concrete overlays, acid stained, and dyed concrete) that can transform your boring gray concrete floor into a beautiful design element. Acid stain can be used on new or existing concrete as well as decorative concrete overlays to create a natural antiqued look. The stain reacts with the hydrated lime in the concrete resulting in a unique finish for each floor. Color options are generally limited to earthy tones. Dye can be applied to new or existing concrete as well as decorative concrete overlays and stained concrete.
