Hawaiian Pools builds Shotcrete pools, which is an extremely solid and heavy-duty type of concrete. Many in the pool industry use and have used for decades the word Gunite, therefore that is the word most people know. The end-result of both products is the same whether you install Gunite or Shotcrete. It is the way the "concrete" is mixed and when the water is added to the mix that separates the two. Gunite is a building material consisting of a mixture of cement, sand and water. When building a pool, the material is sprayed under pneumatic pressure onto rebar (steel) reinforcement and carved to custom shapes.
Hawaiian Pools' portfolio of commercial pool construction and renovation projects is extensive and includes APSP Award Winning projects. We contract with major hotels, hospitals & healthcare organizations, waterparks, health clubs, university housing, apartment complexes, swim up pool bars, etc. Depending on the project needs, we have designers who will create the pool design and/or we will work with provided architectural drawings and job specifications. Dennis and John came out after I had another company come and open our pool (who had been there 3 times already). The other company had done a horrible job with leaving debris and dirt at the bottom of the pool, and didn't open it properly. John and Dennis from Hawaiian Pools had our pool clean and up and running in no time at all! I couldn't have been happier! They were polite and answered all my questions. True professionals!
We had Hawaiian install our pool 3 years ago. The employees were great and very helpful but there were multiple issues. Our pool was put in too high for our grade so we have to step up to the pool deck from in our home. We were also told by the project manager that any sprinkler lines would be cut and capped but this was not done. We had to prove in writing that this was promised prior to them paying for this repair. We also had problems with our heater from day one and the color of our pool was wrong. The owner of Hawaiian was NOT helpful, tried to blame everything on us, and refused to allow his employees to fix our issues. They also charge $50 an hour driving time for any consults so be prepared for that. Our initial salesperson tried to help, and between him and one of the maintenance experts, they were able to get the color corrected. The heater was never correct and ended up failing after 2 years. In dealing with the heater replacement ($4000 for a new heater installed) we discovered that our initial "new" heater from Hawaiian was not new at all. Overall, I can not recommend them but if you go with Hawaiian, get EVERYTHING in writing, and open up all of your components yourself to make sure you aren't getting any used units.
Several bugs needed to be worked out in this messy project and the rain caused many delays. My pool is 53 years old and has been closed for years. Dwayne, Jamie and Spike were here many many hours and took this old mosquito breeding pool and made it into something of beauty. Glenna, too, is a wonderful addition to Hawaiian Pools. She is on top of everything that happens at Hawaiian pools. Last, Jason McCloskey did a wonderful job of laying all the cement and leveling out the yard when he was done. I'd recommend Hawaiian Pools, their wonderful crew of designers and rebuilders and J McCloskey.
