It's always a great idea to know who you're hiring! No matter which company you choose, and we hope it's ours, we encourage you to do a complete background check through the Better Business Bureau, Arizona Registrar of Contractors, Angie's List, Google and many of the other customer resources. Hamstra Heating & Cooling was founded November 1, 1983 by Glenn Hamstra and his two sons, Jeff and David. Glenn had 34 years of experience in the heating & cooling industry, Jeff 11 years and David 9. Tired of being unable to provide the highest levels of customer service, Glenn felt it was the right time to set a new standard for the heating & cooling industry.

Being the former owner of a small commercial air conditioning Co. back in Maryland before I retired many years ago, I closely watched the performance of the Hamstra Co, and it's technicians. I did not disclose my previous line of business to anyone until now so all personnel performed as usual without any undo pressure on them. They may have wondered though why I seemed to ask certain questions and knew about certain things. My problem was that my AC unit was starting to have problems maintaining the set point on the thermostat. This indicated to me that I had a freon leak somewhere. Their technician Chris cam over, inspected the system and found I had multiple freon leaks in the evaporator coil located in the attic. He recommended I replace it and I accepted. On the appointed day Chris and his helper showed up with the new coil. They removed the old coil, installed the new one, pressure tested the system for leaks with pressurised nitrogen, pulled a vacuum on the system to remove all air and any moisture(moistu re and freon combined together become acidic-bad), recharged the system and got it running. Chris checked out the operation of the system and felt it was OK but could be better. The flow of freon in the new coil was modulated by a piston which was the same as it was in the old coil. To improve the performance Chris shut the system down, removed the piston and installed a Thermal Expansion Valve in it's place to meter the flow of freon. This was a definite system upgrade found in higher end coils. I was not charged a penny more for this upgrade as Hamstra had quoted me a firm price to replace my evaporator coil and get my AC system running in peak efficiency.
My experience with Hamstra has been stellar and it continued today with a maintenance visit with Renee. He was friendly and informative providing me.
