Mode Comfort & Air Quality is a fully-licensed and insured limited liability company owned by G. Todd Rice, serving Richmond, Virginia, and the surrounding areas, including Powhatan, Midlothian, Chesterfield, and Moseley. Todd began his career in the HVAC industry in 1994, honing his expertise at a well-respected, locally-owned HVAC company. Todd holds several high-level tradesman licenses, including Master HVAC, Master Gasfitter, Master Natural Gas, and Master Liquid Propane. He holds his Class A contractor's license.

Oil furnaces have been providing dependable heat for a long time. They are messier and dirtier than gas models. Oil furnaces can also come with some additional costs, as oil prices fluctuate wildly and these units have to be cleaned yearly to operate safely. Gas furnaces can operate using propane or natural gas. Both options are cleaner than oil and do not have to be cleaned as often. Another benefit to gas furnaces is that many furnace service calls are very simple in nature. On occasion, a technician may even be able to talk you through the furnace repair over the phone.

A boiler is essentially any appliance that uses water to heat a home (and sometimes provide domestic hot water), as opposed to a furnace, which uses heated air to heat a space. Condensing boilers are high-efficiency boilers fueled by natural gas or liquid propane. Condensing boilers are reliable with low operating costs. Condensing boilers are so named because they have a secondary heat exchanger. As the gasses pass through the secondary exchanger, additional heat is removed from the exhaust gas.

It works by taking heat from the air and pumping it into another location (hence the name "heat pump"), either inside our outside of your home. During warm weather (and in central Virginia, we know this can be anywhere from March to October), your heat pump removes heat from inside and pumps it outside, which cools your home.
