Dave Schmidt and Mike Schwartz had a mutual dream of owning their own remodeling business. They decided to leave their corporate jobs behind and establish Built by Design, LLC in 2004. Built by Design focused on residential remodeling, and Dave and Mike quickly earned a solid reputation from Olathe, Overland Park and Leawood to Kansas City, Independence and Gladstone - and everywhere in between - for quality craftsmanship, superior customer service and client satisfaction. Mike and Dave have taken construction project management to a new level based on their dedication to open, honest and on-going communication.

Built by Design holds a Class B general contractors license with the Johnson County Contractor Licensing program. This allows us to build any residential or commercial structure up to three stories in height. We are also licensed to build in each municipality in the greater Kansas City area. To stay current with new building codes and trends, We require our employees to attend mandatory classroom training a minimum of 8 credit hours each year.
