There may still be a few people around that remember Amundson Boat Works on White Bear Lake, Minnesota. There, Gus and later Adolf Amundson designed and built handcrafted wooden sailboats and rowboats. In 1925 you could have bought one for five hundred dollars! Now, the few remaining boats are priceless treasures. That tradition and culture of craftsmanship, passed down from boat builders, is still practiced by TreHus (TreHus is a Norwegian word that means "house of wood"). Founded in 1982 by David Amundson, a descendant of Gus and Adolf, the company employs a unique system called the Master Carpenter System to ensure that their carpenters provide focused, dedicated craftsmanship to each and every project.

At TreHus we use a Master Carpenter system as opposed to what is currently in vogue, the Lead Carpenter system. Our projects are primarily managed by project managers so that the carpenters can concentrate on building the project. We want our carpenters to love their craft and to excel at it. We rate our carpenters as: Senior Master, Master, Master carpenter in Training, Carpenter, and Carpenter in Training.
