Formed by Fred Johnson in 1948, the company initially focused on providing service and parts for oil burner furnaces. In 1964, Henry Kissler, father of current president Doug Kissler, purchased the business and expanded it by adding residential heating and ventilation products for new construction. When Doug Kissler bought the business in 1987, he saw tremendous commercial opportunity and shifted the emphasis of the company to pursue this potential industry, changing the company name to Johnson Air Products.
