Landscaping is an ever more important extension of the home living environment. As a full-service landscape construction company, we have been turning homes into destinations since 1985. That's 35 years of solving challenges most Essex County homeowners face maybe twice in a lifetime. Our most valuable asset is extensive knowledge of area-specific problems such as drainage & erosion, excess shade and deer damage. Solutions can be logically developed to create a visually coherent and stimulating outdoor space.
Much has changed since the beginning, but our design principles have stood the test of time. Each new project is a blank canvas; a fresh slate of possibilities limited only by creativity. Like any work of art, landscape and garden design boils down to color, texture, scale and composition. A balance of these elements is necessary for satisfaction that lasts decades. Our goal is to help you recharge from the day-to-day, accommodate loved ones or simply enjoy nature. We will discuss challenges and logical solutions to create a visually coherent and stimulating outdoor space.
A simple 3-stage open compost adds even more value to future projects and yard maintenance. Leaves, grass clippings and plant prunings can all be disposed of on your own property into the first stage. Once per the piles are rotated over and by the third stage you have usable soil. This is especially useful for homes just starting their landscaping process - composting provides free earth supply and convenient disposal for green waste. Mulching and garden bed redefinition typically occurs once annually in the springtime.
I started this business in 1985 after completing studies in Horticulture & Landscape Design at Rutgers University. Much has changed in 30 years working on both sides of First Mountain but our passion for creating exquisite landscapes is permanent. Our extensive knowledge of area specific problems is the most valuable asset to our customers. There are particular realities of living on or at the bottom of a mountain, such as excess shade and drainage problems. The past 10 years have also seen the explosion in the deer population.
We have over 30 years experience with Essex County geography and understand that consistent grading and drainage are critical in any landscape project. In order to solve any drainage problem, one must identify the source of excess water before finding a logical exit path. Poor water drainage can lead to both long and short term issues. Depending on the volume of water and homeowner needs, our systems can efficiently carry it away or store it for use around your property. A simple change in your yard's grade steepness or direction can passively eliminate many water-related problems.
