History records the California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) incorporating in 1952. In reality, our collaborative work on behalf of California's landscape contractors started much earlier. CLCA's roots were born locally, as there were three regional landscaping trade groups each working on behalf of the industry. Realizing that other trades wished to limit the work landscape contractors could do under their C-27 license, the regional groups banded together and the statewide CLCA was created.

Landscaping is an important part of any community, not only from the joy it brings, but the quality of life that it provides to humans and other species as well. Plants positively alter our environment, reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, protect the land, provide us food, create oxygen and sustain life. As our climate changes we need to protect our plants, adapt to our changing environment and make choices that benefit us all and preserve our future. The California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) is pleased to offer some recommendations to help you make smart choices and protect the environment using your area's mandated water reductions.

The California Landscape Contractors Association's Water Management Certification Program was established in 2007 and helps the green industry reduce landscape water usage by certifying individuals through performance-based water budgeting. This unique program carries the WaterSense label from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and is also approved for continuing education units by NALP (formerly PLANET), the Irrigation Association and the International Association of Arboriculture. If you have not completed the Performance Program requirement: Upon completion of passing the written test a property must be enrolled in the Water Management Performance Program within six months.
