Vern began his plumbing apprenticeship in 1963. He completed 5 years apprentice school, and in 1969, Vern and his wife, Pat, opened Vern's Plumbing out of their home. Vern did the plumbing, and Pat handled the phones and books. Business stayed small throughout the 70s but started to expand in the early 80s when their three sons joined the business and helped it grow. To accommodate their growing customer base, Vern's rented their first shop in 1985. A decade later, the HVAC side of the company was started, and in 1995 Vern's Plumbing became Vern's Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning.
