Windows cleaned, cars detailed from winter salt, and the house gets the chance to breathe when we open all the doors and windows! It is a great time of year, but work needs to be done. The landscape needs to breathe as well. Grass needs to see the sunshine. If you have a thick matte of leaves atop your grass in the Spring then you are damaging the turf. Grass does not do well going into the winter with leaves atop it, and then snow atop the leaves. This creates a recipe for snow mold and other pathogens in your grass.

The Second option is applying fertilizer 4 times per season. The application times for this plan are late April, late June, early September, and finally October. Some people prefer this more traditional approach because it is what they are accustomed. Broad leaf weed control and crabgrass-preventer is combined with the first application of fertilizer. Grub control can also be applied in the August application of fertilizer. These additions can be put into any fertilizer program that you choose. Weeds are sprayed throughout the growing season.

Proper pruning is critical to establishing healthy plants. In addition, trees and shrubs look better when they are on a schedule of proper pruning. Establishing a leader for a tree, managing shape and form of a shrub, and keeping disease at bay, are all benefits of proper pruning. A landscape which is not on a regular pruning schedule is a landscape that shows itself to be tired, shaggy, and dated. It is not unlike somebody needing a haircut, or realizing your dog needs a haircut on a regular basis.

Bark mulch comes in a variety of colors, but most commonly the natural and the dyed brown are used. Cedar mulch is also used and has a nice scent. In addition, the life span of cedar is longer than that of regular hardwood bark mulch. Stone of course has the title of "longest life span" when it comes to ground covers. The upfront cost of stone will be higher, but the benefit is the fact you do not need to put it down year after year. Call today for a quote on your mulch needs. Whether it is stone, hardwood bark, pine straw, cedar, or living ground cover, give us a call.
