Dear Local 393 Brothers and Sisters, I hope this letter finds you and your family safe and healthy. We will be having an informational only (non-interactive) union meeting this Wednesday, December 9, at 5:30pm.
The UA Local 393 website is dedicated to the men and women of Local 393, both past and present, who have given the very best of themselves and, in turn, have provided our community with over 100 years of excellence. From certified welders - to master plumbers - to specialized pipe fitting journeymembers, UA Local 393 craftsmen have long led the way. From the days when Santa Clara Valley was best known for its agricultural produce through today where we have mastered the piping systems that have allowed the birth and continued growth of "Silicon Valley."
Local 393's heritage of excellence is the product of our commitment towards achievement. We have long invested into our Apprenticeship instruction and have further enhanced our demand for excellence via our Journey-level training. In 1961, Local 393 opened the Pipe Trades Training Center. The original training center had but one classroom and a welding shop. Today, the Pipe Trades Training Center is one housed in a state-of-the-art, 100,000-square-foot facility located at 780 Commercial Street in San Jose.

“Hopefully it makes history,” said Alvarez. “But I don’t think I’m part of history. I’m tired, I’m tired of being mistreated, of being underpaid and overworked. We want that $15 and a union. I guess you don’t think about the whole history part until after it’s been done.”
“Despite the backlash from management, Bates says she’s confident that this time Amazon workers will form a union. ‘I believe it with all my heart,’ she says. ‘I have no doubt that we'll be successful.’”
