Houston - At Restore Your Door we refinish and restore entrance doors. Nothing in your home gets more attention from a visitor or more neglect from its owner than an entrance door. It is opened, closed, banged and sometimes slammed; yet we expect it to serve us faithfully without much attention for years. A door keeps out the elements, secures our loved ones, welcomes our guests and creates a first impression. But there comes a time when it needs a little help. Restore Your Door provides that help!

Walk into any hardware store and the array of finishes will confuse the average person. There are those made for floors and others for furniture, some for interior, others for exterior use, some are resin based and employ a chemically reactive curing process, while others are fast drying lacquers or even water based. The ideal wood finish would penetrate deep into the surface dry quickly, provide good abrasion and stain resistance, rub out easily and look great. Also, you would want the option to apply this finish with a rag or brush or spray gun.

Our custom in-shop process begins when a knowledgeable craftsman arrives at your home to carefully assess and remove your tarnished door. We will discuss your hopes, what is possible and what is needed to restore your door to its original warmth and beauty. Before we leave, we install a fully finished temporary door to enhance the beauty and maintain the security of your home. Our temporary doors are solid wood with stained, polyurethane or spar varnish finishes, complete with brass hardware. It is secure, weather tight and fixed securely in place until we return in approximately 7-10 days with your newly refinished door.

Once a month or more frequently if desired, and definitely during the spring pollen season, clean the door with a damp cloth to remove the dust and dirt from the surface. 2. Contrary to our former position on using an occasional coat of old fashioned paste, we now recommend against it. Field trials have shown that some wax manufacturers are including additives that affect oil based finishes and their acceptance of future maintenance coats of Polyurethane or Varnish. 3. Never use any type of compound polish such as, Pledge, Lemon Oil, Orange Oil, Old English or similar products, even old fashioned paste on refinished wood door!
