At TLC, we understand the importance of communication and customer service. We continue to strive to keep customer satisfaction our top priority, and we work with you to ensure that we find a program that works with your budget and a plan that works with you and your lifestyle.

Timing is critical when fertilizing. Fescue is a cool-season grass and needs to be fertilized during this time. At Total Lawn Care by Bryant, we first apply fertilizer in early spring (late February to early March). We then apply fertilizer again in early September when the weather starts to cool, and/or November before the weather turns severely cold. Fescue does not need to be fertilized during warm weather. If fertilized during warm seasons you are promoting turfgrass diseases. Having soil tested is the best way to determine the rate and grade of fertilizer to apply.

Cutting grass at the right height is important because mowing affects the depth of the root system. Cool season grasses and fescue grow best when mowed at a height of 3 to 3.5 inches. During cool weather a shorter height is best. The height of the deck should be raised to 3.5 to 4 inches during the months of July, August, and September. Leaving grass clippings on your lawn can generate up to 25% of the lawn's yearly fertilizer needs and reduce the amount of time and money you spend fertilizing and bagging.

When irrigating a lawn, you must pay attention to the timing and amount of water, just as you do when fertilizing. If you begin watering fescue in the spring, be prepared to water all season long. The grass can become dependent on irrigation, and experience drought stress if watering stops during midsummer. When irrigating fescue, it is best to provide enough water to wet the soil to a depth of four to six inches at each application. Following this advice is easy if the soil doesn't contain much clay.
