Most homeowners don't think about why there are gutters on their homes, they've just always been there. Take a moment to think about what would happen if you didn't have a gutter system to direct water off from your roof. Rain would simply drip off the edge of the roof. The first time you'd notice it would be when you stepped out the front door and had to dodge the waterfall coming down on your front step. After the rain stopped and you took a look at the house you'd find that there would be a trench in the ground directly beneath the roofline from the constant dripping of water.

If you are considering having a tile roof installed there are two different types of tile, standard (or heavyweight) tile and lightweight tile. Heavyweight tiles are made of clay and are more structurally sound than lightweight varieties but they can only be used if the support structure of the home can handle additional weight. Lightweight tiles are made from concrete. They maintain the high-end look of clay tiles while reducing the weight on the roof trusses and supports. They are suggested for most homes in Northern California because they exert less stress on the home during earthquakes but they require professional installation because one wrong step can cause them to crack.
Cedar shakes have always stood the test of time. Wood shakes are made out of Cedar wood, there are four types of Cedar shakes, Jumbo shakes, heavy shakes, medium shakes, and would shingle. There are problems with Cedar shakes; the fire treatment is a product that causes nails to rust out. You have to use stainless steel nails to install a fire treated shake. Fire treated shakes our dryer and do not hold the color or shape, they tend to dry out earlier and curl and break. In days of old Cedar shakes were called heavy shakes because they were soaked in water from the logs coming down the river.
The number one question we get asked, after of course the price, is how long will a roof replacement job take. A standard roof replacement will take two to three days, depending on the city inspections in your area. Our professional coordinators will go through the process from beginning to end before we start to roof so you know exactly what to expect. The day you choose to go with Sonrise Roofing we will set a start date. We will call you the day before the job starts to remind you of the appointment.
The best time to insulate an attic is when the roof is off. It is much easier than crawling through the trusses with sweat dripping off your forehead. There is also far less mess because the insulation doesn't have to be dragged through your home to the attic entrance. With it being so much easier to insulate with the roof off, it simply made sense for us to start offering to place it for our customers. A poorly insulated attic can lead to temperatures upwards of 150 degrees in the attic space. Temperatures this high can cause damage to roof shingles by melting the tar and causing the gravel to easily fall away.
Skylights can be a great addition to any home. They bring natural sunlight down into the areas of your home where it may be a bit darker then desired, or merely illuminating your favorite dwelling areas. Not to mention allowing you to save electricity by using your lights less during the day. While there are several types of skylights available, the two that roofers generally install require a license and permit. The two types are solar tube and solar tunnel. The solar tube is a rigid tube construction that is installed directly through the roof and can only be placed where the tube will fit between roof trusses.

No one likes to do it, but it's one of those things that has to get done. A poorly maintained gutter can fail in just one season. Keeping a regular cleaning schedule, at least twice a year, will increase the longevity of your gutter system. The cost of having a professional clean them is far lower than having to replace them. Also, we at Sonrise Roofing recommend the installation of a gutter screen system in addition to merely getting your gutters clean. Thus preventing future leaves, and common debris from entering your gutter again.
