When Brad Smith Roofing was founded in 1979, Brad already had 12 years of residential and commercial roofing experience under his belt. Brad started his company with the guiding principle that the customer deserves to be educated about all possible options for a quality roofing job. His conviction that quality materials and responsible practices cannot be sacrificed merely in the interest of "getting the job" has endured to this day. From the beginning, Brad's Mom, Norma Jean Smith, ran the office, kept the books, and was the anchor for the company.
Homeowners want 3 things when it comes to remodeling their home: to find a contractor they can trust, to be able to walk through the steps with professionals who know construction and the best for their home, and a contractor that can bring their vision to life! Windows and doors will help to create fresh air, drama, balance, privacy and efficient energy in your home or business. From skylights to windows to doors, Brad Smith Roofing has the expertise for all your home improvement needs to make your home beautiful and efficient.
Brad Smith Roofing offers the following choices that are excellent for industrial, commercial, institutional and residential low slope roofing. Durability, design versatility and installation ease are among the many reasons ethylene propylene dienemonomer (EPDM) is a popular material for re-roof low-slope roofing applications. Single-ply EPDM roofing systems are based on a high-performance synthetic rubber compound that provides outstanding weathering characteristics. It is highly resistant to tearing, solvents, and high temperatures which makes it easy to clean.
Skylights when installed properly can be a dramatic addition to a room by bringing in natural light. With a wide variety of sizes and options a skylight can be added to most roofs. If your house currently has skylights they should be inspected for wear and deterioration, just like windows, they don't last forever. Skill, knowledge and attention to detail are required when it comes to installation of a skylight or solar-tube. Our installers know what it takes to do the job right.
Brad Smith Roofing offers a variety of services for your masonry needs. There are many elements that can affect your chimney and its lifespan. One of the most common problems is water damage from ice, rain, snow and wind. Our project managers can assess the damage to detect if repairs or a total re-build of the chimney is needed. Poorly maintained chimneys can cause just as much damage to your roofing structure as faulty shingles. Below are some of the things that we can provide to prevent water damage.
Our carpentry staff has many years of experience in all phases of the construction and restoration process and can be relied upon to make the necessary repairs correctly and in a timely fashion.
Gutters are necessary components of your homes roofing system, and collect rain water and keep it away from your siding, windows, doors and foundation through downspouts, crocks and diverters. The most commonly used gutter (open gutters) should be regularly cleaned of leaves and debris in order to function properly. We do provide gutter cleaning services, call for a free estimate. One way to protect your gutters and downspouts from becoming clogged is to install gutter screens such as "Leaf Relief".
Siding can improve the value and curb appeal of your home as well as cut down on maintenance. There are numerous siding materials such as wood, vinyl and metal. Vinyl siding is the most popular for its durability and low maintenance. This option comes in a wide variety of colors and styles such as Traditional Lap, Dutch Lap and Shake Siding.
Choosing the Right Roof System and Style When choosing the right roof style for your home there are a number of items to consider. Cost and durability are important as well as aesthetics and architectural style. Asphalt roofing shingles are the most commonly used covering on residential properties. The primary purpose in roofing shingles is to serve as a waterproofing agent. Asphalt also holds the granules in place and adds to the overall strength of the roofing shingle. The best asphalt will stay flexible and will not dry out or become hard or brittle for the expected life of the roofing shingle.
As a valued client of the Brad Smith Roofing Co. we would like to extend to you an exclusive program for commercial roof maintenance; to evaluate and prolong the life expectancy of your buildings most valued asset, your commercial roof. A maintenance program is proactive, NOT reactive. We can help identify issues at their beginning stages, when they can still be corrected before extensive work is required. Normally, the cause of roof failure is due to the lack of maintenance or no maintenance at all.
Often home owners don't know where to turn when a leak arises or weather has damaged your roof. Identifying the source of a roof leak requires the skills and experience of a roofing professional with an expertise in all types of roof systems and the ability to work in inclement weather. In an emergency situation, we provide an immediate response to minimize the amount of damage done to your property.
Typical shingle roofs can last approximately 12-20 years, depending on numerous factors. Knowing when you need a new roof can aid in avoiding disaster. There are three important factors to consider: age, appearance, and leaks. Regular inspections of your roof will help you catch physical damages (such as broken shingles or loss in granule surfacing) and determine when to replace your roof. Brad Smith Roofing offers inspections, at no charge to you, to assess the condition of your roof. There are several variables that determine the price of a new roof, including its size, pitch, accessibility and cost of materials.
Brad Smith Roofing has been safely removing ice and snow for homeowners for years. Whether it's routine snow removal or emergency service, we can tackle the job, big or small. An ice dam is a build-up of ice near the gutter edge of your roof that may cause water to get trapped under the shingles. As the water freezes further up the roof, it may begin to melt from the heat in the attic and cause water to enter the house. There are two main sources to preventing Ice Dams from forming. One is to install Ice and Water shield underlayment to act as a barrier.
Good quality roofing materials and proper installation of these materials are essential to stand up to the elements of nature such as high-winds, hail storms, heavy snowfall and rain storms. Without it, moisture may enter your house resulting in damage to the structural support of your roof, and other areas of your property. Brad Smith Roofing understands the value of your home and the important role that quality and attention to detail plays in it. Our estimators are well-trained in providing a free estimate of your project including a detailed written proposal, current insurance and worker's compensation certificates.
The best way to extend the life of your roof is to have a good maintenance plan in place. Performing regular roof inspections can help detect minor problems before they turn into bigger issues, and can extend the life of your roof. There are signs you can look for to determine if a routine maintenance program would be right for you. Please note, all of these items can be assessed from the ground, we do not encourage climbing on your own roof. Curling or Buckling Shingles - This can be a sign that your shingles are nearing the end of their life expectancy.
New windows can have an impact on your homes aesthetic feel and save you money on your energy bill. A good rule of thumb is if your windows are over 15 years old, you should consider replacing them. With new windows there are many great new features. Vinyl framed windows are the most popular choice as they insulate well, clean easily and don't need painting. They come in numerous styles, such as single-hung, double-hung, and sliding. Our salesmen can help you choose the casement style and manufacturer that best fits your needs.
Brad began roofing when he was just 15 years old! He started the actual Brad Smith Roofing Company in 1979. On January 30, 1991, we incorporated. The company has been an Accredited Business of the Cleveland Better Business Bureau since 1993. We joined the Akron Better Business Bureau in 2010. Brad's two children, Stacey and Drew, now work alongside our founder. Drew started roofing over the summers when he was 16 years old! In 2001, he began working full-time in Sales. Over the years, Drew has helped update the company with innovations to increase our effectiveness and productivity in the field and maintain our competitiveness in the marketplace.
I cannot express my appreciation and gratitude for the stellar customer service provided by Sean and Danny! We had a leak on a Friday and they were here within 30 minutes to assess/appraise and back out again after hours making sure it was temporarily patched until the rain stopped for a long term fix. Thank you!
Brad Smith Roofing was excellent. First, they were the only roofing company that was able to give me a full and complete quote that satisfied my insurance company. (This was an insurance claim.) Second, they had the expertise to go toe-to-toe with insurance company BEFORE they started work and get agreement on what needed to get done. For instance, the insurance company claimed, rather ridiculously, that several things required by code weren't required. (The adjuster claimed she was an "expert" in roofing, but then suddenly is unaware of basic elements of the Ohio code? Come on, seriously? Typical insurance company run-around.) Numerous other details had to get hammered out with the insurance company throughout the process and Brad Smith was there the whole time.
While the crew was there, they did a great job with the work, cleaning up after themselves, and getting done quickly. I combed my yard and barely filled the bottom of a 12 oz coffee cup with a few minor scraps of paper from all the various wrappers the shingles and materials came in. Friends who had a roof done by someone else found nails for a year afterwards in the yard. I searched and searched, because I determined to find at least one nail. Finally, after 20 minutes, I managed to find one and so I could quit.
However, what was MOST impressive was their attention to safety. The first day of the job, while they were tearing off the roofing, my daughter walked out the back door. The guy on the ground who saw her first SCREAMED "homeowner". With that one word, every. single. guy. on the roof stopped immediately and didn't throw anything down. They were no where near the door my daughter came out. They had spoke to us about making sure to be careful coming in and out. But that was not the mind of my daughter; she isn't used to construction worksites. Her mistake. But they were ready for that.
That sort of attention to safety does not just happen. It wasn't just one guy. It is a clear safety is a topic they address and that is part of their culture.
If I needed another roof, I would call Drew Smith at Brad Smith Roofing and work with him again.
After a few 'hiccups' (mediocre work on several sections, etc.) everything from the estimate, to their bringing in a "bevel master" , was great.
Sean Masterson was open to listening to any issues either my GC or I had, and not only told us how they would be addressed, but actually followed through.
The gentleman (Ron?) who did the bevel work is a true professional who obviously takes a lot of pride in his work. The finished product is beautiful: it's a gutter that looks like crown molding.
My only issue is that after lengthy discussions with my GC about preserving the brick sills with flashing, Sean never bothered to follow through with an estimate. I acknowledge that this was an additional job which was not of the initial consultation.
Brad Smith Roofing had the materials (large K style gutters and large round downspouts) and the professionals to make this project one that will add protection as well as value to our home.
Contacted them in September for roof estimate. Young guy came out to look at the roof two weeks later and said that he'd be in touch and that they would probably start work in December. No call back. I emailed him 3 weeks after he came out..no response. Called the company the following week, they said he was out of the office that week. Sent another email the following week. Called them again after no response, they told me "the weather has been bad" and they were very busy, but I have no idea what that has to do with getting an estimate. I even resent an online request for a free estimate, but still no response. Poor customer service all around.
