When Charles Schmidt, a Dutch immigrant, started Charles Schmidt & Sons Construction in 1920, he wanted to do things differently. He believed that you could start and grow a business that could build communities, not just buildings. Across four generations of family leadership spanning nearly a century, we've never lost sight of that belief. That's why, even as we've grown into one of the Midwest's top construction firms, we remain committed to creating exceptional facilities that improve the lives of others.
Our story starts in 1920, when Dutch immigrant Charles Schmidt left his job at a brewery in Milwaukee to found Charles Schmidt & Sons Construction. Through four generations of family ownership, we've built a reputation for tackling some of the largest, most recognizable projects in Wisconsin. And we're just getting started. A diverse workforce stimulates innovation, creates opportunities, and builds the local economy. As one of the largest Wisconsin-based construction firms, we believe it is our responsibility to proactively grow our industry and to create meaningful employment opportunities for the people who live here.
CG Schmidt's unwavering dedication to safety, quality and innovation has helped make us a leader in commercial construction services. We are committed to the continuous improvement of the construction process and were one of the first construction companies in the state to implement lean construction practices to improve the efficiency of the overall construction process, which ultimately adds value for our clients. I really appreciated the time/resource commitment CG Schmidt provided during the planning process, this supported the development of a strong partner relationship with the project team.
We build high quality buildings. As a self-performing construction manager we not only manage the construction process from start to finish, but we also have skilled tradespeople to put the work in place. As a leader in the market, we've developed strong, valuable relationships with subcontractors and trade management partners. Our management oversight of the smallest details alleviates your concerns and delivers your new or renovated facility on time and on budget. Building is what we do, and for a century we've built a reputation for quality construction and a smooth construction process, designed to save you time, money, and headache.
We know your schools are more than just schools, and they deserve more than "just" a builder. Schools are the most direct investment a community can make in its future. Put that investment in good hands with a master planning partner who can deliver the most value. No firm in Wisconsin knows educational construction or works as hard to protect the interests of the District and your community like CG Schmidt. We've completed hundreds of education projects in Wisconsin, led master planning with dozens of Districts in just the last five years, and improved the facilities and lives of tens of thousands of students.
Not every construction project needs a bulldozer. That's why we created our Special Projects Group - experienced construction professionals who will manage your project from beginning to end, with the same quality and care that have made CG Schmidt a construction leader throughout the state. Our Special Projects Group gives you access to the expertise and resources of one of Wisconsin's largest builders, with all of the agility and personal touch of a smaller contractor. Our Special Projects Group is equipped to offer our clients the same world-class, skyline-changing services that CG Schmidt is known for, at the right scale for their project, staffed by our highly-trained, experienced construction experts.
Our clients build with confidence. With CG Schmidt as their partner in preconstruction, they know they're getting accurate estimates and scheduling that not only account for today's market conditions, but with expert knowledge of what's coming next. Take the risk out of building with our suite of services.
Adaptive reuse goes further and also helps maintain the historic fabric of the community. That is just one the goals of the Journal Square project in downtown Milwaukee.
Senior Superintendent, Tom Pagel (a.k.a "The Real Tom Pagel"), has retired after nearly 30 years with CG Schmidt. During his career, Tom has built many of the iconic buildings in Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest. His dedication, knowledge, experience and friendship will be missed! We wish him.
We are proud to support the Milwaukee Business Journal's Diversity in Business Awards to help encourage growth and optimism of those who are positively impacting central cities and urban growth in southeast Wisconsin. Hear from a panel of experts, including CG Schmidt board member Cecelia Gore, on.
