We decided to give Alternative Aire a try after hearing a good review somewhere, and always feeling like other companies were trying to unnecessary upsell us things we may not need. Curtis came out and was very friendly and knowledgable. He had our unit cleaned up really quickly and then went upstairs to investigate a wiring issue in our zone controller that we inherited when we bought the house. While other companies had quoted us over $500 for fixing it, he just said, "Oh, I see what's going on, that's easy!" and fixed it for $30. He was a pleasure to interact with, and he treated us fairly rather than preying on our lack of expertise. They've absolutely earned my future business.

Marlin was extremely professional & charged a reasonable rate for routine furnace maintenance. He also noticed a disconnected flue pipe (CO toxicity risk) and promptly returned the next day to reattach it.

Fast, friendly, and organized. We needed service and they were out within an hour. Communication around appointment and tech arrival via text and email. Can pay the invoice with Apple Pay. Alternative Aire made everything so easy.

Chris came out to give me an estimate on replacing our heat pump. Definitely a no pressure estimate. He quickly turned around the paperwork. Was able to sign up for the appointment on-line. He was upfront on costs, warranties, etc. Very pleased.

They are great. Lee came out on Saturday to look at our HVAC unit. Sadly, we need a part so he can't get the AC working again, but he did make it so that we can have the fan blowing -- for at least a little bit of air circulation.
The best part: Lee is bringing us a loaner window AC unit tomorrow morning. He's busy all weekend, but told us he'll drop it off around 5 am.
Scheduling the appointment was easy, and the office lady was very friendly. We've had them work on our unit before, but the loaner window unit goes above & beyond for excellent service.

Great, expert, and friendly service no matter how large or small the job. When the "Big Guys" who installed and maintained our HVAC systems refused to help us with some special needs, Alternative Aire jumped right in and performed the work we needed, and did an excellent job. Alt-aire is our HVAC company for keeps. Great overall!

Alternative Aire has come to the rescue for multiple air conditioning and heating crises for us in the past four years since we moved to north Durham. They are fast, cost conscious and efficient. Whoever you are using for maintaining your system if it is not Alternative Aire you should replace them immediately.

The team at Alternative Aire are top notch! What makes them shine most is their attention to customer service and quality outcomes.
We had a mini split which failed after install through another installer in the area. After trying to get service through the original installer and failing to get any help, we called Alternative Aire. The experience was night and day!
The owner of Alternative Aire took the time to explain all potential causes of our system failure, help with a warranty replacement (even though they were not the original installers) and sent out techs to ensure we wouldn't miss anything that might otherwise have caused the concern. It was above and beyond service all the way through!
The service techs were 100% on time, friendly, and helpful in explaining what was going on. The end result was exactly what we hoped for and really shows what customer service is all about!
If you need HVAC service in the area, I just can't imagine Alternative Aire being topped!

Summer time in NC is no joke. We ended up having to replace our entire system last summer in the middle of August. We knew that was the case but no one (except alternative) actually took our unit apart to see why it had failed. Yeah, it was super old but it's still nice to know.
We may have been able to find a slightly cheaper route but the guys (and gals) at Alternative Aire did a superior job when writing us quotes and giving us options. They even measured our insulation to properly size our unit. They have come out twice to check on the system in order to maintain our warranty and I couldn't be more pleased!

Alternative Aire had serviced our home twice previously, and was our first choice when it was time to replace the entire HVAC system in our rental unit prior to putting it up for sale. Danny was thorough and informative in his estimate, and he went above and beyond in explaining options we had for a replacement system. The system replacement went smoothly, and we were kept informed throughout the process, including being told a few days ahead of time who would be coming to do the project and when it was done. There were no surprises, which was a possibility since the interior attic unit was over 30 years old. Besides always getting terrific customer service, we love that we are supporting a local business. Thank you!

There's a reason why they're rated best in Durham year after year. Honest, trustworthy, professional, reasonable prices, and extremely knowledgeable are just a few words to describe them. Whoever we encounter, Scott, Danny, Enrique, they always take the best care of our HVAC and keep it running year after year. No service agreements, just a seasonal check up has kept it in tip top shape.

I "found" Alternative Aire here on Yelp.
My Mother's HVAC system was not warming up/heating up past 73 degrees. I called AA, described the issue and was given a same day appointment. Thankfully, it was just a matter of maintenance - the filter hadn't been changed since the system was installed in 2013 *embarassed emoji* The technician was professional and courteous and the only charge was the service fee, which was quoted to the penny to me when I booked the appointment. By the time the technician was finished, the temperature was already heating up!
I think I've found my HVAC "person" - Thanks Alternative Aire for a great experience!

Great service! The office staff was friendly and responsive! The technician was friendly and took his time explaining what was going on to me. He always showed up early and never had to reschedule! I definitely recommend them!

Called when our 2-year-old furnace stopped working after the first run of the season. They offered to come out the same day, but I couldn't leave work, so they sent Danny Johnson over first thing the next morning. He was right on time and figured out the problem in about a minute - a forgotten step during the system installation that was easily corrected. He also checked out the rest of the installation to look for other problems and made some helpful recommendations on controlling ductwork condensation in my crawlspace in the summer. He charged just the diagnostic fee and our system has been running perfectly since. I will call them again when needed.

Alternative Aire assisted the replacement of a furnace circuit board in the middle of winter. The process for scheduling was superb and easy. They returned my call within 15 mins of leaving a message.
The troubleshooting did not lead to a certain root cause. They gave me a best case (cost) scenario and a worst case with prices and timelines. No guessing, no smokescreens. They applied the fix and it held for 48 hours then busted again. I called back and explained the situation and they came back and fixed without additional charge.
This is the kind of service that warrants recommendations: fair prices, up front cost estimates and reality checks on issues, as well as standing behind their work without charging extra.
This is one of the best experiences I have had with this type of service regardless of where I have worked in the US.
