In 1981, The Great Western Tile Company, a family owned and operated business was founded by visionary Steve Chirico. In 1984, The Great Western Tile Company was incorporated into what is now known as The Great Western Flooring Company. Steve's passion, hard work, and dedication to the flooring industry and Great Western Flooring Co. led to the rapid success of the business, not only by becoming one of the most prestigious design centers in Chicago, but by also securing valuable partnerships with the country's largest and most elite flooring industry companies and manufacturers.

You can install laminate floors in almost every room in your home, above or below ground, and over wood or concrete. Laminate flooring installation is 30% - 50% faster than other floors because there's no need for adhesives or special tools. It's a great weekend project for DIYers with intermediate experience. Laminate flooring is designed for a "floating floor" installation method that doesn't require glue, nails or staples. Instead, laminate boards have a unique tongue-and-groove profile that connects by simply locking edges into place for a firmly fastened surface.
Care and maintenance tips are also simple and low maintenance, only a couple of minutes a day with a deeper clean once a week is all it takes to keep your flooring looking like new! The following information from our team here at Great Western Flooring Co. aims to provide you with helpful maintenance tips. For common household spills and messes like water, wine and pet accidents, immediately wipe away or mop clean. Tile and stone flooring surfaces can get very slippery when wet, so it's important to keep your tile and stone flooring as dry as possible.
Tile and stone installations can be very complex and labor intensive, requiring specialized tools and materials. Whether you decide to install the tile or stone yourself or hire a professional installer, make sure you understand the different steps of the installation so that you know what to expect during the process. Preparation is important for a successful tile flooring installation. You should consult with your Great Western Flooring Co. specialist for full instructions, but there are steps you can take to help the process go smoothly.

Solid and engineered hardwood flooring have long been popular flooring choices among our customers. To ensure the durability and beauty of your hardwood flooring, many of today's manufacturers use built in scuff resistant technology to keep floors looking their very best. Shaw's ScufResist built in hardwood floor finish, for example, protects floors from marks, scuffs and scratches that could result from every day wear and tear. Preventative maintenance for your new hardwood flooring begins with awareness of your surroundings.

Great Western Flooring Co. uses one of the only GREENGUARD-certified sanding systems for all our hardwood refinishing and screen-and-coat projects - the Atomic Dust Containment system. This system helps to reduce the level of dust during the sanding process. While there is no such thing as a "dustless refinishing", the Atomic Dust Containment system helps to remove between 94 - 98% of the dust. It is always recommended that you cover anything that might be sensitive to dust accumulation, either on or in vents, cabinets, closets, etc. HVAC systems normally do have to be up and running to keep the hardwood acclimatized, and we recommend for our customers to plan accordingly.
