Before our partners started offering SandFree, they all were installing wood. From the simplest strip installations, to the complicated patterns featured above, installation is a great service that we provide. If you have questions about your floor possibilities, please contact your local SandFree Franchisee - click on "Offices" above. Once we knew how to use SandFree on wood, we realized it would work on any hard surface. We were called by the Pulitzer Foundation in St. Louis and sent men there to SandFree the concrete floors in their museum.
The major wood manufacturers, and the minor ones also, are now producing laminated woods - a thin layer of real wood bonded to particle board underneath. This layer may be as thin as 1/8″. Normal sanding techniques usually remove 1/32″ of wood. A not-so-expert sander, may stall with the machine and sand out as much as 1/8″. This would put a hole in the laminated product. Laminated wood cries out for the SandFree process. As the "engineered wood floor" market increases, SandFree is going to expand at a similar rate, because it will save the customers a lot of money - both in the refinishing cost, and in the cost of replacing the wood.
In 2001, a restaurant owner demanded we refinish his restaurant with No Dust! And No Odor! And he would not close. SandFree was developed to replace sanding. It has been proven to compete beautifully with sanding, except we are the price, there is no dust, and there is no odor. Please take the time to watch the movie about Oxford Mills, a 165,000 square foot multi-use project were we refinished 100 year old maple. In a head on test, the SandFree sample was selected over the sanding sample because the patina of the wood was enhanced, not sanded away.
SandFree began simply enough. Mr Johnson, (of Johnson and Johnson) a renowned sculptor who developed the Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey. In your city, if you see a lifelike human, or child, in a pose of everyday life - ie. carrying an umbrella, holding a child on a knee, calling a taxi, it might have been created at The Grounds for Sculpture. He added a 5 star restaurant - RATS! (named for a Dickens character). He was told by his floor sander that he needed to close the restaurant for 3 weeks to have the floors refinished.
SandFree is a 5 phase, chemical process with abrasion which prepares an existing floor to receive a URETHANE finish. The first 3 phases prepare the existing finish on a floor to receive a coat of urethane without sanding. The fourth phase is a bonding coat that provides a surface for the urethane to bond to. The fifth phase is the application of the same urethane Brunswick uses on their bowling alleys. The fact that we use water-based products that have almost no odor, makes the process extremely attractive for people who don't want to lose the use of their property for a period of 3-5 days.
