Quincy-Columbia Basin Irrigation District's primary concern is for the safety of the public and its employees. For this reason, the District does not allow swimming, fishing, playing, or other recreational activities in and around its canals. During the hot summer months, the water may look inviting but underneath the surface are powerful currents that can pull a person under very quickly. Make sure you and especially children stay a safe distance from all canals.
The Quincy-Columbia Basin Irrigation District's Water Quality Program seeks to meet the District's operation and maintenance objectives as well as Local, State, and Federal regulatory requirements in the interest of the landowners. We constantly test and work with our partners to find the best ways to remove weeds and algae from our irrigation system and to apply them effectively. In the process of improving water quality, we will treat canals with aquatic herbicides for weed and algae control. If you would like to receive advanced notice of these treatments, such as if you are an organic producer, you must submit annual written notice to the District.
