Harker Heating & Cooling has been a leader in HVAC services since the company was first launched in Madison by the Harker family in 1949. Since then, our heating and cooling company has continued to evolve with the changing HVAC landscape to bring Dane County families the comfort they deserve. In the late 1980s, the Harker family sold the company to Tim Heiar, and today our company is owned by his son Luke, along with partners Oscar Wendt and Marcus Nelson. Over the years, Harker earned a reputation for excellent service and grew its residential and commercial divisions into one of Dane County's most successful businesses.
These systems typically are gas- or oil-fired, and circulate hot water through a system of pipes in the floor, baseboard heating units, or radiators. A hot-water heating system can be very comfortable. The radiant heat provides warmth without the draft created by air circulation. If you're considering a hot water heating system, Focus recommends a 90 percent AFUE modulating boiler with an outdoor temperature reset to maximize energy savings and comfort.
Can your air conditioner keep up with the heat of summer? If your A/C unit is showing signs of wear - such strange noises, condensation, and poor airflow - it may be time to consider repairing or replacing your home cooling system. Whether your A/C unit needs a quick fix or it's time to invest in a new central air conditioning system, Harker is here to help you keep your cool. Our HVAC technicians have been providing high-quality air conditioning services to Madison-area residents for more than 65 years.
Just like your furnace and air conditioner, water heaters and water softeners have mechanical parts that can fail if not properly maintained. Check your equipment's owner manual or talk to a Harker Heating & Cooling professional to learn how often your equipment should be serviced. A Service Agreement provides you with routine maintenance of your equipment which yields the lowest overall operating costs while giving the customer the highest probability of year-round comfort. Cleaning your system twice a year not only prevents break downs, but can also catch major problems before they happen.
Allows the system to produce a moderate temperature air for most of the time while still allowing it to cool your home during extremely hot/humid days. This feature will also save you money on your electrical bills as well as increase comfort. What is a SEER? Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio - a measure of cooling efficiency for air conditioners and heat pumps. The higher the SEER, the more energy efficient the unit. Combining an efficient AC with a variable speed furnace will raise the efficiency of the air conditioner even more.
Your system naturally removes moisture from the air in your home during the cooling season. However, it doesn't run very often in the spring and fall. That's when moisture presents the biggest indoor air quality and health problems. Depending on where you live, the construction materials used in your home, and the tightness of the construction, you may need more dehumidification year round to ensure a healthy home. Whole house dehumidification also protects your possessions from excess moisture.
This is Wisconsin. Heat is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Buying a heating system is one of the most important decisions you will make as a home owner. Since the late 1940's Harker heating & cooling has been helping the residents of the greater Madison area find the right solution to their heating needs. Whether you just want a basic heating unit or something that will increase your comfort and well-being, Harker has your solution.
We spend 90% of our lives indoors and the average person inhales over 3,500 gallons of air each day. Don't you think it is time to pay more attention to the air we breath? Unfortunately, there is no easy "cure-all" solutions (despite what the Sharper Image may tell you). Indoor air quality often requires multiple solutions for multiple problems. Have Harker Heating & Cooling design a system that suits your needs.
There are few things more comforting that snuggling up next to a cozy fire. Harker Heating & Cooling offers a wide variety of fireplaces that can warm any room of your house. You will be amazed at how far electric fireplaces have come. Some models can even hang on your wall like a picture frame while still producing a hyper-realistic image and heat. Please note that the pictures displayed are only EXAMPLES of product designs. There are thousands of combinations of facings, inserts, and liners that will get the look that you want.
Wisconsin's winters can be brutal. So, when your furnace breaks down in the middle of a cold snap, it's more than a frustrating inconvenience - it's a potentially dangerous situation that could put your family's health and wellbeing at risk. You need a high-efficiency furnace system built to last. Harker provides emergency heating repair and installation services, as well as routine maintenance to help keep your furnace running better, longer. Not only will we take care of your furnace, but we'll also take care of your heating elements, including boilers, heat pumps, geothermal, and ductless split units.
Zoning enhances the performance of your system with customized comfort control. Depending upon how many stories, how many windows, which direction the house faces, ect. You may need to vary the cooling or heating in certain areas of your home. With most systems, if one room needs heat, all rooms get heat, whether they need it or not. Think of zoning as turning on the lights only in the rooms that you need light. That's efficiency. Heating and cooling efficiency is raised by sending treated air only where it is needed.
Heat pumps are simply air conditioners that can go in reverse. A standard air conditioner pumps heat from inside your house to outside. Heat pumps have the ability to do that as well as pump heat from outside into your home. In Wisconsin these systems can typically heat your home through much of the spring and fall, however, it is usually required to have some sort of back-up hear for those real nasty winter days and nights.
Did you know that people spend nearly 90% of their time indoors? When it comes to your family's well being, your home should be a worry-free zone. Yet, contaminants such as pet dander, dust, chemical fumes, pollen, allergens, and mold can all cause poor indoor air quality, and potentially lead to heart, respiratory and other health problems. Dry air or dense humidity can exacerbate these issues. At Harker Heating & Cooling, we want you to breathe easy. Our team of IAQ specialists will help you find the right technology to monitor and improve your air quality.
Everybody know that heat rises, that is why it is always a good idea to distribute it as low to the ground as possible. You cannot get any lower than your floor. Radiant heat systems use a boiler to run warm water through tubes in your floor which rises up and heats the entire room. Radiant heat can be used throughout an entire house but is more commonly used in basements and bathrooms. Check out what Harker can do for you. Your toes will thank you come wintertime. Science shows that heat emission from the human body occurs mainly via three mechanisms: radiation, evaporation and convection.
In the deep freeze of winter, waking up and climbing into a cold shower can throw off your family's whole day. Don't suffer - call the hot water heater experts at Harker. If you are running out of hot water quickly, or if your water isn't heating up at all, it may be time to consider repairing or replacing your hot water heater. At Harker, we can help you diagnose your hot water heater problem and provide you with a wide variety of solutions fit for your home, including gas and electric water heater models, and tankless options.
Efficiency - A dirty air conditioner does not run as "smoothly" as a clean one. This means it has to work harder to give you the same results. That will cost you extra on your electric bill. Some air conditioning problems can DOUBLE the operating cost without increasing comfort. Just 1/100th of an inch of dirt or film on an evaporator coil can reduce its efficiency by 5%. Longevity - Systems that are properly maintained live longer than ones that are set aside and forgotten about. Up to 80% of all air conditioning compressor failures could be eliminated if the problems that lead to failure were corrected in a timely manner.
Whole-home air conditioning systems are central systems that rely on ducts to deliver cooled air throughout the home. An air-conditioning system provides cooling, ventilation, humidity control and even heating (if using aHeat Pump) for a home. Air conditioning unitscool refrigerants likePuronRefrigerant and Freon and deliver them toevaporator coils, which dissipate the refrigerant and blow cool air into ducts for delivery throughout the home. Products such as room air conditioners are local cooling options for smaller areas within homes.
Efficiency - Even though your furnace may have been 90%+ efficient when it was new, it takes annual service to keep it running at that level. Imagine if your system runs at 70%, that is 30% of the gas you buy, not going towards heating your home. Some heating problems can DOUBLE your operating cost without increasing your comfort. Longevity - Furnaces that are properly maintained live longer than ones that are set in the basement and forgotten about. Un-repaired small problems can turn into expensive repairs or replacement.
Dry air can be harmful and uncomfortable. Winter is especially tough on nasal passages and the entire upper respiratory system. A humidifier replenishes the moisture in your home and reduces unhealthy dry throats and skin, cracking woodwork, and even static electricity. Adding moisture to your home makes you more comfortable. You can usually adjust your thermostat a few degrees lower in the winter if the humidity level is being properly controlled, which helps to save energy and money.
Have you been told you can't put whole-home air conditioning or heating in your house? It's likely you have an older home that lacks the necessary duct-work for conventional air conditioning or heating. A ductless system consists of a small outdoor unit and one or more indoor units mounted to the wall. Depending on the number of units, we can install it in as little as one day. The system saves you money because it uses less power than big traditional forced air units. And you can create cooling or heating zones that don't waste energy cooling unoccupied areas of your home.

My furnace stopped working yesterday morning and I call Harker. Kurt H. arrived in a couple hours and did a competent job of repairing it. He gave me a complete description of what was wrong and what he did to fix it. Great job!
Excellent service as always. Technician was punctual, polite and professional. He shared all pertinent information and performed the maintenance in a timely fashion. I will continue to use Harker just like I've been doing for the past 15 years.
Harker's an excellent company with extremely reliable technicians. We were concerned about the age of our furnace. Their technician John J came out and ran our furnace.through a complete check up and gave us a piece of mind that our furnace was functioning well and we would not have any issues. John was very friendly and explained everything throughly. I would recommend this company to all my friends if they need help with their furnaces! Thanks for great service and a piece of mind!
With some cold weather in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow, some furnaces may start to fail. Here are some things you can try before you call for a technician. Best wishes for the New Year from all of us at Harker Heating & Cooling.https:// harkerheating.co m/ before-you-call/
