Air conditioner effectiveness is measured by the Seasonal Power Efficiency Proportion (SEER). This proportion gauges the cooling performance of the cooling system. High-performance systems typically gain a high SEER ratio. The Environmental Protection Agency started needing all brand names of cooling systems to have a SEER ratio of 14 or greater, beginning January 1, 2015. Before that time, the EPA called for a SEER proportion of 13 or greater. Customers must recognize that either one of these numbers is extremely reduced.
