J&W Lumber's commitment to environmental sustainability is reflected by the fact that most of our lumber comes from Northern California mills that are certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), a national forest conservation program that promotes sustainable forestry using internationally recognized standards for sustainable forest management. In addition to our commitment to sustainable forests, J&W Lumber ensures our non-wood suppliers are fully committed to the environment. Our composite, steel, aluminum, vinyl, tools and paint suppliers are all leaders in their prospective industries for doing their part in preserving our environment.

J&W Lumber has a long and rich history, and is proud to remain a family-owned business that cares about their customers and staff. In 1957 with a truckload of used lumber, J&W Lumber was established in Mission Valley, San Diego CA on the corner of Texas Street and Interstate 8. Charley Jennings started the business by purchasing used building materials from John Woolman, a close friend and business mentor, thus the "W" in J&W Lumber. About six months later the City of San Diego, the rightful owners of the property, forced Charley to move the business.
