For many people, moving can present a traumatic and difficult time. From planning and packing to the physical move and unpacking, it's an overwhelming and time consuming process. Fortunately, professional movers can streamline this process, making it as simple and easy for you as possible. This site has been designed to help you consider all your options and then to find the mover that's right for you. After more than 30 years, the Board of Directors recently voted to adopt a new logo for the Association.
We are happy to help you determine whether the Illinois domiciled mover of your choice is licensed and what kind of complaint history is on record with regulatory agencies. Our "resources" page can help you investigate movers both within and outside Illinois, and you're always welcome to call us for assistance and referrals to reputable movers. Choose a mover whose business is physically located in your community (or the community to which you are moving), and make sure what you're really "buying" before you let them load the truck.
WE, the members of the Illinois Movers' and Warehousemen's Association, stand united in our sincere beliefs that honest, ethical, efficient and quality services to the public are the ultimate goals of this organization.
In addition to the education and governmental liaison services we provide every day to our members, IMAWA provides brochures and limited consultation to consumers and the media about how to choose a mover and moving service. We work closely with regulatory agencies including the Illinois Commerce Commission, which regulates moving and storage in Illinois; and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, which regulates interstate moving. IMAWA also works closely with other state and national moving associations to provide consistent consumer information about choosing reputable moving companies and to enhance professional standards for moving and storage companies.
Illinois Movers' and Warehousemen's Association, incorporated in its present name in 1958, is the statewide not-for-profit trade association for moving and storage companies licensed to do business in Illinois. 95% of all the licensed movers in Illinois are members of this association. We have been publishing information on the Internet since 1997, both for those needing the services of our membership and for our members. The Illinois Movers Tariff Bureau is a sister organization, incorporated in 1953; and our current association name, Illinois Movers' and Warehousemen's Association, was officially recorded with the Secretary of State in 1958.
