Deer ticks, or black-legged ticks, are a fact of life here in Danbury, CT, and surrounding areas. In fact, recent research and publications indicate that tick populations and the diseases they transmit are on the rise in Connecticut. While we often think of ticks being found in wooded areas and parks, they're also present in even the most perfectly manicured yard - even if you can't see them. Most Lyme infections occur in spring, which is why it's critical to start your tick control program in spring.
Tree removal can be a necessary part of a sound landscape management program, especially when trees are damaged by storms, pests, or disease. At Barts Tree Service, removal is normally thought of as the last resort, but many trees must be removed for safety and to make way for younger, healthier landscape plantings. Often trees are located too close to your house which can cause roof damage, leaky gutters, and roof or siding damage which necessitates removal. Dying trees that cannot be saved or dead trees in close proximity to residential properties should also be removed before a windy storm can knock them down, possibly landing on your home.
Fully seasoned wood takes about 9 -10 months, depending on the species mix (ours has a large amount of oak typically so it takes the full 9 months). We recommend calling Dom's Garden Center in Danbury at (203) 744-6755 - they may have some quality seasoned wood available. All of our firewood is 14" to 18" in length, split and seasoned mixed hardwoods. I do sometimes have piles of shorter wood (less then 14) available in smaller quantities as well. This year I have maple, cherry, apple, white oak, black oak, red oak, chestnut oak, ash and a little black birch in the mix.
