A key component of maintaining turf grass is a proper treatment plan. Broadleaf weeds, fungus, crabgrass, and grubs are all enemies of the Central Illinois homeowner. We feel that it is very important for the party that carries out the mowing services to also apply the necessary treatments to the turf. Timing is 80% of the task when it comes to lawn care applications. Providing ‘in house' lawn treatments allows us to schedule the applications on days that will not compete with the mowing schedule.
In the landscaping world, it is all about making things look good. The customer's yard needs to look perfect and professionally maintained. There are four different things that contribute to perfect residential lawn mowing event. An attractive yard must have distinctive stripes, edged sidewalks, carefully trimmed obstacles, and paved surfaces free from clippings and debris to give it a clean and completed look. The motto of J.Jacobs Grounds Management is "Maintaining Landscape of the Highest Quality" and the only way the company can live up to their motto is to fulfill the four tasks mentioned above.
When spring rolls around customers are looking for less expensive ways to improve their landscaping. Mulching or re-mulching is just the thing! At J. Jacobs we recommend putting down a new layer of mulch every other year. Typically we use a dark stained mulch as it holds its dark color longer, making your landscaping look freshly mulched for a longer period of time. When spreading a new layer of mulch we usually do an even layer approximately three inches thick. A re-mulch, or top-dress, is approximately only one inch thick.
The first J. Jacobs truck hit the road in the Fall of 2009. Jeremy Knecht, with the support of his wife Kalsey, started the venture seeking to provide mowing, pruning, and landscape lighting services. To help get the business off of the ground, commercial accounts were purchased from a local landscape firm. A local building was rented for equipment, and the Knecht's home was used as the J. Jacobs Office. In the Spring of 2010, Lawn Care Treatments, were added to the list of services. This helped establish new customers and relationships which developed into new work and opportunities.
