A full kitchen makeover and/or expansion can significantly improve the ambience of your home. Lighting, cabinetry, color selection, countertops, and appliances, if all coordinated professionally, have a dramatic impact on the design of a kitchen. An experienced architect can create a new kitchen with thoughtful details that will make it the centerpiece of your home. A gorgeous kitchen begins with inspiration and thrives on expertise and attention to detail. Whether you've envisioned a gourmet kitchen for cooking, a more expansive dining area for entertaining, or both, the professionals at Commonwealth Home Design can help achieve your dreams.

According to the National Kitchen and Bath Association, a bathroom renovation is one of the best ways to add value to your home. Every day can feel like a luxury hotel retreat when your home includes a modern master bathroom with a spa-like ambience and upscale amenities. Improvements to guest baths, Jack & Jill bathrooms and powder rooms can significantly update the look and feel of your entire home. Commonwealth Home Design's bathroom design and remodeling services include: new lighting design; custom built-ins and fitted furniture selection for cabinetry and mirrors; artistic tile selections and design; custom, spa-like showers; upgraded flooring, including heated floors; and the reconfiguration of bathrooms to maximize natural light from windows and skylights.

As part of our whole house remodeling projects, many homeowners in Northern Virginia look to Commonwealth Home Design for roofing, siding and exterior design services. Protecting everything underneath it, your roof might be the most under-appreciated part of your home. With over 30 years of experience in residential remodeling, our team is expert at helping clients choose the right roofing systems to fit their aesthetic, functional, and budget needs. We use high quality roofing materials, including CertainTeed architectural shingles, which are composed of a heavy fiber glass mat base and ceramic-coated mineral granules tightly embedded in water-resistant asphalt.

Many of our whole house remodeling projects begin with kitchens and baths and expand throughout the home as a result of working with an experienced residential architect. Once clients see the numerous improvements and efficiencies that can be achieved, their wish lists tend to grow! Increased Space: Many aging homes in Northern Virginia have closed-in rooms and are lacking in storage. Our team of expert home remodelers understands these challenges and can identify ways to increase the space in your home.

Commonwealth Home Design is often called upon to tear down a significantly outdated house and design a new home on the same piece of land in Northern Virginia. Our streamlined design-build process takes you from preliminary ideas through construction completion in three simple phases. During the Initial Design Phase an architect will discuss your vision as well as assess existing site conditions, zoning, easement, and environmental issues. A combination of hand sketches, renderings, and computer drawings will be used to produce design comps and establish ballpark costs for construction and interior finishes.

The Divine Child Foundation is a 501(c) non-profit organization founded by Commonwealth Home Design owners, Kelvin and Susan Pierce. We're in need of help with fundraising and administering to the needs of the children with medical care, mental health care and vocational training. Volunteers with skills for building repairs are also greatly appreciated.

Our clients' reasons for hiring a residential architect are varied. Many homeowners in Northern Virginia have growing families, while others are "empty nesters" changing their home to reflect their new lifestyle. Considering the growth of the Northern Virginia area and increasing home values, several clients have purchased "fixer-uppers" and call on Commonwealth Home Design to significantly renew and retrofit spaces for modern living. We've also been involved in numerous tear downs and new residential design projects on highly valuable pieces of land across Northern Virginia.

Everything you've heard about curb appeal is true; the exterior of your house makes a first impression. Improvements to your home's exterior also allows you to feel better about spending time outdoors! The majority of today's residential renovation projects include basic to elaborate curb appeal improvements. Because they have such a commanding presence, upgrading a garage door with a vibrant color, engaging design or unexpected material such as glass, can dramatically improve the way your home looks.

In many cases, you can gain more space in your existing home through an addition project. There are numerous ways to add onto a home. Adding onto and renovating the first floor may allow for an expansive new kitchen; and you know that everyone tends to gravitate towards the kitchen! A sunroom addition can function in many ways. It can be a light and airy, relaxation space with lots of glass and outdoor views, or a great place to mix, mingle and entertain. Second story additions are increasingly popular.
