Central Contracting Inc. is a St. Louis, MO based slate, tile, shingle and flat roofing contractor specializing in restoration services. Slate roof repairs and tile roof repairs as well as new slate, tile, shingle and flat roof installations. We have restored very complicated cornices with built-in gutters and fancy corbels and in-laid copper gutters, including slate and tile roofs and multi-color paint schemes. We install flat intelocking and standing seam copper roofs. All of these roofs are "lifetime" roofs and gutters typically lasting over 100 years.
One of our favorite projects is installing EPDM rubber membrane roofs and we prefer WeatherBOND or Versico, both field and time tested EPDM roofing membranes. We are thrilled to pass on WeatherBOND's EPDM Lifetime homeowner warranty. We know we are leaving a quality roof that will surpass the homeowners or business owner's expectations. Flat roofs are generally not particularly clean or pretty but these EPDM roofs are impressive. When modified roofing was first introduced to the US from Europe, Central Contracting Inc. was among the first local roofing companies to install the TPP asphalt modified torch applied and SBS asphalt modified membrane roofs which go by names such as Rubberoid, Awaplan, Tri-Ply, and Brai.
For over 30 years Central has been successfully restoring and renovating turn of the century homes to their original charm in the Central West End, Lafayette Square, Compton Heights, Clayton, and University City. Our depth of experience in this demandingenvironmentmakes difficult tasks less time consuming and ultimately saves the customer from many return visits to get the job done correctly. Wither a restored cornice and roof system with complicated flashings or simply a new flat or shingle roof, we have the staff to handle all aspects of construction.
Our very first painting job over 40 years ago was Roy Pfautsch's house at the end of Portland Place. He also had us repair some roof slate since we had a safety line tied between the two chimneys. That was our first foray in to steep roof repairing and we did not paint for some time after since passing out fliers produced many more slate repairs. We used the best paint we could find so the job lasted many years. Years later, in the process of restoring cornices on turn-of-the-century residences, since we had the scaffold set, it made sense for us to do the painting while we are there, rather than the customer hiring another contractor who would then have to set up ladders etc. to reach the eve again incurring additional unnecessary expense.
EPDM roofing membrane is the most durable, longest lasting, most environmentally friendly flat and low slope roof with a very reasonable cost. EPDM is environmentally friendly and comes in traditional black and more recently available white Energy Star rated by the ENERGY STAR Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC). We use Versico's time tested EPDM, and WeatherBond EPDM which has a Limited Lifetime Membrane Material Warranty. WeatherBond is available in white and meets ENERGY STAR guidelines and is LEED approved.
The very most critical part of a roof installation is to follow the manufacturer's specifications. The are printed on the inside of the bundle of every shingle. This will determine if the manufacturer will stand behind their warranty which is typically 25 or 30 years. Recently the warranty has been extended to Lifetime, however if the nails are not properly spaced horizontally and vertically or the shingles are started in a way that is not according to the manufacturer's specifications, you will have no warranty and the roof may not look as great as it was designed.

Water run off from EPDM roofs and our 100% silicone roofing is safe for watering crops. This is not true of PVC. PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride. There is a chlorine molecule in the chemical structure. Should the roof catch on fire, the fumes are highly toxic. EPDM is based on rubber, it is more natural and when decomposes, it does not add toxins to the soil. In our experience. PVC has caused allergic reactions during installation.
