Much of our built environment involves the use of hydroscopic materials. These materials absorb water and the wetted nutrient is an ideal location for mold amplification. The aggressive approach of implementing structural drying concurrent with gross water extraction will eliminate the potential of microbial defacement of much of the wetted areas. Structural drying utilizing desiccant dehumidifiers has the greatest opportunity to reduce the moisture level in the building envelope and preclude contamination of the hydroscopic material.
