Organic Soil Solutions is an all organic lawn care company based in Woburn, MA and serving the Boston area to Route 495 since 1999. We use a completely organic and proactive approach to plant and soil health care. The Organic Soil Solutions program renews, revitalizes, corrects and conditions your soil and healthy living soil means healthy thriving trees, shrubs and lawns. To preserve your investment in your landscape, your soil must come first. Organic Soil Solutions was started by Boston Tree Preservation when they noticed the trees and shrubs on properties treated with lawn chemicals were less healthy than others.
We add limestone to those lawns that require it to maintain the proper pH for turf growth. We did over 400 soil tests last year. Most soils that had been on the program and had the pH adjusted did well. A lot of the new lawns we tested were decidedly acidic. We really notice the difference in the health of a lawn with a decent soil pH. We test lawns yearly, and apply limestone, until they reach the desired range. After that we test every three years. Limestone adds necessary calcium and magnesium to the soil while reducing acidity.
When my asphalt driveway was cracking a few years back, I called 3 paving companies to give quotes on repairing or replacing it. No one returned my call. Frustrated, I had the Organic Soil Solutions crew tear it up and lay down crusher run, a dense grade aggregate that compacts well, but allows the water to seep through. I love it. The asphalt was very difficult to dispose of, but the crusher run has settled nicely and it doesn't rear up when you shovel ice and snow. Crusher run may not suit everyone's taste (lined with granite pavers, I think my driveway is very handsome).
What is Organic Soil Solutions and how does it work? Organic Soil Solutions is an organic lawn care program designed to correct the chemical, physical, and biological imbalances in the soil to provide a healthy environment for grass. We feed the soil and let the soil feed the plant. Although our products contain nitrogen and other nutrients required by the grass plants, they generally have to be processed by the soil biology to be available. This provides a steady and slow release form of food for the plants.
Organic Soil Solutions offers a one-year organic lawn care program that improves your soil and strengthens your lawn in preparation for seeding in the fall. Our season starts April 1st when, barring snow, we apply an early spring fertilizer. This soy based fertilizer stimulates soil biology and gets the grass off to fast start, out competing annual weeds. On April 15th, we usually start over seeding of bare spots and winter damage. The seed is mixed with a blend of 60% soil and 40% compost that helps the grass germinate quickly and grow strong roots.
