From Abilene to West Lake Hills, over 50 Texas cities have laws to protect trees. It's easy to forget that trees are part of the public good, even if they are on an individual's property. They clean the air, absorb rain, and help prevent runoff leading to floods. While these statutes sometimes frustrate builders, developers, and homeowners who want to cut down a tree, they add beauty and enjoyment to Central Texas. If your city has a tree ordinance, it may be like Austin's. Protected Trees in Austin are from nine to 23 inches in diameter.
The best way to achieve all these goals is to have an arborist tree service look at the trees on your property and give them an annual checkup. Trees, properly selected for their location, have better tolerance to drought, heat, cold, and other threats. Encouraging clients to choose native and well-adapted species reduces potential problems. Heritage Tree Care arborists know the best trees for Central Texas and can help you choose the best species. Our goal, as tree care professionals, is to help trees deal with stress, which can lead to decline.

Tree mapping needs to include not only what you can see, but the roots too. The best tree trimming service providers understand the importance of the tree roots in overall tree health. Arborists find the roots with soil probes and careful excavation with the Airspade. It's more effective and cheaper to make compromises in design now than try to save trees later after you've damaged their roots. You need root mapping when development may be near trees you want to save. Diagrams of root locations are useful during the permitting process, and to determine where structural elements can be placed.
Windstorms, hail, or heavy rain can bring a tree or branches down on your house or car. Vehicles run into trees. Hidden decay or a lightning strike can cause a tree to split in two. When you need emergency tree service, you want some fast, reliable, and trained in handling delicate emergencies. Call Heritage Tree Care to remove trees blocking your driveway or lodged on your roof. We have the equipment and experience to remove dangerous trees while keeping your property safe. As soon as you safely can, take videos and photographs of the damage and call your insurance company.
It's necessary to understand tree biology and structure to prune and enhance the structure of trees. Each cut can change the growth of a tree, so we should remove no branch without a clear aim. Certified arborists understand if a cut is poorly done it can cause decay and even the eventual death of the tree. For the sake of your valuable trees, insist that the person pruning your trees is an experienced certified arborist. Even when you take excellent care of your trees, you may still need to remove them.
Large trees need very little pruning. Work on mature trees is usually limited to the removal of dead or diseased wood and to keep them out of utility lines. Proper pruning encourages trees to develop a strong structure, enhancing their shape and beauty. Severe pruning can prevent the trees from reaching their full potential. Removing hazardous branches can prevent injury or property damage. Keeping branches away from your home, streets, sidewalks, and utility lines improves the safety of trees near your home.
Avoid disappointed clients who are angry when valuable trees die from construction damage. Minimize the expense of treating or replacing trees with the services of an experienced local tree care service. Bury them too deep, cut them, or compress the soil- and you will have problems. Physical injury to the roots occurs by cutting them during trenching, changing the soil grade and smothering the roots, and by soil compaction. Trees may start declining within a few months or may not show signs for a few years, but the damage has been done.
We are a bit more excited than usual about spring this time around. So here is another pic of spring blossoms of Texas Red Bud
Buds are swelling on several of our favorite trees: golden ball lead tree, Mexican white oak (monterrey oak), and young live oak. This extreme frost may have shocked them but they are coming back!
Live oak barely pushing new buds. Comal county today.
Frost damage post: Frost damage is causing unusual leaf damage on some of our native trees, but also needle damage on native evergreens: trees will drop their needless and will come back.
Enjoy the snow ! Some of our evergreens do tend to break under the weight, especially mountain laurels. To prevent that, shake the snow off and they will be just fine. Pro tip: Use a broomstick if you dont want to shake the snow all over yourself😂
