Founded in 1965, the Birmingham Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) represents a total membership of approximately 350 licensed architects, interns and affiliates. AIA Birmingham's primary goal is to promote good design and quality in the practice of architecture. As architects together, we give voice to our shared values in order to shape our neighborhoods. AIA members strive to make the world a better place for everyone to live, work and play. The American Institute of Architects is a three-tier organization.
We are the largest chapter in Alabama with 51 percent of the state's architects. Our members come from different backgrounds, have different specialties and work on different types of projects. We have residential architects, commercial architects and institutional architects. We have solo practitioners, contract architects and large firms with more than 50 people. Each one of our members brings something special to the practice of architecture, not only in Birmingham, but also throughout Alabama, the Southern region and nationwide.
No matter what kind of project you have in mind, you should speak with an architect who is a member of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) at the earliest stage of the design process. Architects have the education, training, experience and vision to maximize your construction dollar and ease the entire design and construction process. Architects are educated to help you define what you want to build, present options you might never have considered and help you get the most for your valuable investment.
