Architecture is a collaboration between the Owner, the architect, the community, and the craftsmen involved. Communication is the key to the success of this collaboration. We have developed a series of questions and enjoyable exercises that allow us to quickly identify your unique ideas, goals, dreams, and concerns. The opportunities and challenges of your property are then considered in light of your input and our experience. Forms are best expressed using 2 and 3 dimensional images that demonstrate how the design addresses the key issues.
Custom residential design is an abstract expression of the personality and values of the Owner. Health, safety, sustainability, energy efficiency, budget, function, environment, and climate are issues that all responsible architects must address. However, a custom home must be tailored to the unique personalities, preferences, limitations, and circumstances of the site and the client. Some sites have obvious potential, others must be buffered, and honed to maximize their potential. Even on sites with a very dominant view we may recommend shifting the focus in different areas to include a secondary feature such as an enhanced natural element, or an intimate garden.
