Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo and Associates LLC ("Roche Dinkeloo") is a direct outgrowth of Eero Saarinen and Associates, which was established in 1950. After Saarinen's passing in 1961, the practice was subsequently taken over by Kevin Roche and John Dinkeloo. Together they worked to complete the remaining design on Saarinen's major projects including the Dulles International Airport, the St. Louis Gateway Arch, the TWA Flight Center at New York's JFK Airport and the CBS Headquarters in New York. Founded in 1966, Roche Dinkeloo has engaged in major projects throughout the United States, Europe and Asia and provided complete master planning, architectural design, interior design, and construction administration services.
Green roofs, which offer protection of waterproofing, thermal insulation, improvement of the climatic environment as well as providing habitat for flora and fauna, have been incorporated into KRJDA's designs decades prior to their recent popularity. Our clients have benefited from their low maintenance, and in urban settings they are increasingly in demand as they help mitigate heat island effect.
Roche Dinkeloo has been practicing environmentally responsible design well before the popularity of "green" architecture. Over our fifty year history, we have strived to maximize energy efficiency, minimize environmental impacts, and take advantage of synergies and responsible building design strategies. The design for Oakland Museum (1966) is considered one of the first true green buildings in the United States. The museum's main feature is a series of terraced green roofs which spill out from the galleries and provide the city's downtown with a community green space.
