In 1961, when Hiram Axtell died the family opted to sell the locations outside of Ames and Alfred "Fritz" Munn took ownership of the downtown Ames location. Alfred Munn passed away in 1985 and his son, Erik, is currently president of the company. Throughout the years Munn Lumber has expanded into hardware and do-it-yourself products to supplement its existing contractor business. Additions included builders' hardware, tool, paint and rental departments to provide one-stop shopping to a diverse customer base.
