The apprenticeship program provides individuals with real life on-the-job training combined with classroom instruction. Apprentices work together with highly skilled Journeyman while employed in the program. Electricians work in a multitude of settings such as residential homes and apartment complexes, commercial office buildings and small complexes, retail stores and strip malls, hospitals, pulp and paper plants, power houses, and manufacturing plants. Examples of the type of work include: Electrical Power and Lighting Systems, Power Distribution and Metering Systems, Fire Alarm Systems, Motor Control and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's), Building Automation Systems, Energy Management Systems, Packaging Systems, Manufacturing Systems, Backup Power Generation Systems, etc.
The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America represents more than a half-million men and women. The UBC represents one trade with many crafts. Our members touch every aspect of a construction project; they're frequently first on the job and the last to leave. Carpenters create commercial, residential, and institutional structures through the skill and experience that is established only by union training. Carpenters measure, saw, level, and fasten wood and other building materials.
The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council Seven (IUPAT) is a union representing painters, glaziers, wall coverers, flooring installers, convention and trade show decorators, glassworkers, sign and display workers, asbestos worker/hazmat technician and drywall finishers in the United States and Canada. Most of our members work in the construction industry. Glaziers install all types of glass products and architectural metals. Examples of products: plate and sheet glass, insulating units, spandrels, plastics, mirrors, shower doors and tub enclosures, aluminum entrances and doors, windows, storefronts, hardware application, curtain-walls and slope-walls.
The trowel trades are a family of crafts that have in common their most basic tool - the trowel. Examples of the work performed by masonry craftworkers are all around you. Tile in your bathroom, brick in homes and schools, the stone used to build many churches, the concrete sidewalks you use everyday, plastering, terrazzo, marble work, and the restoring of older buildings and monuments are all performed by the trowel craftworkers. Work in the trowel trades crafts is a combination of both physical and mental activity.
