Gelcoat refers to the material used to provide a high-quality gloss finish on the visible surface of a fiber-reinforced composite material, such as fiberglass. Most common gelcoats are based on epoxy or polyester resin chemistry. They can be colored and will retain a durable high gloss surface. Many watercraft and bathroom fixtures utilize an outer layer of gelcoat, which can become worn, chipped, or cracked.
